Looks like a deal that depends on team needs. Matusz is the best prospect out of the bunch but there are some solid ones on the other side as well. Hitting or Pitching....do you need more depth in your farm or are you just looking to load up on the best of the best while sacraficing depth?

I dealt Matusz because I have very few good young hitters plus I really like Brackman's upside

I think Matusz is the safest bet of these prospects but Carlos Santana took a huge step forward last year. I would say it's probably a wash at this point because both Chisnehall and Brackman are several years away from contributing. I am not a Mills fan but he could be serviceable at 1B or DH by 2010. I think getting a catcher, like Santana, with good upside(and projected to stay at catcher)and plate discipline could offset the loss of Matusz even if none of the other three prospects pan out.

The team who dealt Matusz clearly got the better of this deal. Without question. Carlos Santana made Shoppach expendable and allows VMart to move to 1b, Beau Mills has huge upside and will appear at some point in 2009, and Brackman has the ceiling of a true #1 when he recovers from TJ......

If you need pitching Team A wins, if you need hitting Team B wins (though you possibly could of held onto Matusz longer). Also thomasps3 overemphasized everything in his post, Brackman doesn't have ace upside and while Mills can hit he isn't the 2nd coming of anyone.

Brackman still has yet to prove he can even throw 100 innings in a season without getting hurt let alone become a #1 starter anytime soon. Look at Mills power numbers last year. This was from a guy that was supposed to be a great power hitter from Lewis and Clark College. He is solid but no 30 homerun guy. That being said they have value but neither may make much of an impact in the majors.
