Milestones
• Alex Rodriguez is 47 home runs shy of reaching the 600 circle at 34 (the six already in it got there at an average age of 37). A reach? Nope -- A-Rod has hit that mark in five of the past eight seasons.
• The 500-homer club will definitely have one new inductee (Gary Sheffield is at 499), perhaps two (Carlos Delgado is 31 away).
• We know we say this every time someone gets there -- but Randy Johnson really could become baseball's last 300-game winner with his fifth of the season (he is also 211 strikeouts away from joining Nolan Ryan as the only ones with 5,000).
• Neither is gainfully employed at the moment, but Jason Isringhausen (293) and Armando Benitez (289) could be the 22nd and 23rd pledges of the 300-save fraternity.
