i'm pretty sure he was willing to play for the league minimum last year and still couldn't get a job.

Exactly. When a player of his caliber can't generate interest at league minimum, you pretty much know he's being black-balled.

If the Jays had signed him last year to replace Matt Stairs and Brad Wilkerson, they would have made the playoffs.

Why does it have to be collusion for noone to sign bonds? The guy faces federal charges.

Because signing one of the best hitters to ever play the game for league minimum is a zero risk/high reward proposition. Had anyone signed him last season, he would have missed zero time to deal with the federal charges people love to bring up whenever the topic is discussed. I would love his bat in the middle of the Met lineup.
