According to ESPN's Buster Olney, Brian Fuentes signed a two-year deal with the Angels. A press release from the Angels is out; there's a third-year club option. The Rockies will receive the Angels' #33 pick in the June draft, as well as a supplemental pick.
Fuentes, 33, was excellent in 2008. He posted a 2.73 ERA and 11.78 K/9. At the outset of the offseason he was expected to get a three or even four-year deal.
Good signing. I think it's been expected for a while that the Halos were looking into Fuentes replacing K-Rod for a relative bargain than just re-signing K-Rod. Of course, that was undone by Tex's desire to play back east and supposedly they're not aiming for Manny.
Meh, I think they were better off with the #33 pick and Shield/Arredendo or whoever else stepping up in the pen. With their ability to produce pitchers, I don't really understand this move.

I think Fuentes was a good option for somebody, but with the cost of the #33 pick, it really pushes up the price. Will be interesting to see what $ were involved. Probably pretty cheap compared to KRod. But with the Angels ability to produce pitching from their system, as was stated before, a bit odd. The Angels need hitting more than pitching, after all.

Looks like Arredondo is back to setting up. We'll now see his MDP drop from 167.53 to below 200. Doesn't change the situation in COL as Fuentes was never going to resign with them. I still consider Street the favorite with Corpas slightly behind.
