I see it as the upgrade from Rios to Lincecum is worth the downgrade from Grady to Markakis. He has a good speed foundation already and can pair Rios with another player and try to upgrade.

I don't think that paying Lincecum is worth the extra 20 steals. You have Reyes and Kinsler anyways. With Lincecum and Peavy leading your staff, that is a hell of a team.

Eh, I don't know that that's true.

Let's see. Tim is in a terrible offensive division. He lead the league in strikeouts. His bullpen doesn't lose him games. He has a friendly ball park. He has a nasty out pitch.

Other candidates:

Brandon Webb - gets the wins, but doesn't get the Ks
Johan Santana - in a tough offensive division, should get the wins and Ks, but will have a high ERA
CC Sabathia - in the most offensive division in baseball, will get the wins and the Ks but will have a high ERA
Jay Bruce is mah franchize. I love you Chris Davis!

The Giants' bullpen did blow a few games where Lincecum was in line for the win and most of his wins came with a margin of 3 runs or less. Unless the Giants can load up on a big slugger or two, the likelihood he doesn't need or exceed his win total for '08 is still there although wins generally tend to be random anyway.

As for the trade, I'd pass. Sizemore is a maddening hitter, but I'd still take his 5-cat potential over Lincecum while Rios and Markakis for the time being are on even footing in what they can provide and in how they're valued.

i guess i got the trade backwards, i'm for the side which is getting markakis and lincecum. i like markakis quite a bit more than rios and think he more than makes up for the difference in value between sizemore and lincecum

I'd rather have Markakis and Lincecum then Sizemore and Rios. I personally think Rios is amongst the most overrated fantasy players, and Markakis amongst the most underrated. I think you have speed to burn, and can afford to move Sizemore. Markakis is likely to post a higher batting average with a handful fewer HR's (though I could see this being the season his power really takes off) and the big difference between Sizemore and Markakis coming in their SB totals. Markakis is likely to post 10+ SB's and could post as many as 20 SB's. So he will certainly contribute something to the SB department.

Breaking down the rest of the deal I don't even think it's close. I'd take Lincecum 10 times out of 10 over Rios. Lincecum is without question amongst the top 5 SP's in fantasy, and arguably the top fantasy pitcher after last year's performance. Pairing him with another top 5 SP gives you what I'd imagine has to be the best 1-2 in your league. I'd do this deal and not think twice about it.

I hope that is of some assistance. I need a little help myself, and if you don't mind I'd like your two cents on a question of my own. viewtopic.php?t=364919

If you want to add another top pitcher I'd try to deal Quentin instead of Sizemore. You're trading a first round pick (Sizemore) for years to come. Keep that core group together (Wright, Kinsler, Reyes, Pujols and Sizemore. It's always easier to assemble a good pitching staff via draft/free agency etc, etc....

It's not a bad trade, but I always value top hitters over top pitchers any day. I'd pass.
