Pick 6 Keepers and Peavy trade question WHIR

Postby B-Chad » Mon Dec 29, 2008 3:25 am

Let me start by giving my league settings, since there are many more categories then the standard 5x5:

Keeper league. 12 teams. 5 keepers with a luxury tax for a 6th Scoring includes for hitters: R, H, 1b, 2b, 3b, HR, RBI, BB, SB, K, FPCT, AVG, OPS
pitchers: IP, W, L, CG, SHO, SV's, H, HR's, BB's, K's , Holds, ERA, WHIP
It is a head to head league.
6 teams make the playoffs with 2 byes

My definite keepers are:
1B Albert Pujols
2B Ian Kinsler
3B Evan Longoria
CF Josh Hamilton
SP Jake Peavy

My last spot can go to either Roy Halladay, B.J. Upton, Nate McLouth, Cole Hamels, Rich Harden, Francisco Liriano or Yovani Gallardo.

I'm leaning quite heavily toward Roy Halladay. Because CG's, hits allowed, HR's allowed, and BB's allowed are all categories, I think Roy Halladay is much more valuable in this league then standard 5x5's. CG's for the most part are a toss up/luck category week to week in a H2H league, but Halladay actually gives me a legit shot at winning (or worst case tying) then most teams have week to week. I was originally leaning toward Upton until I learned of off-season surgery to repair a torn labrum, now I'm concerned about another year of down power from him. I haven't really given serious though to the others, but figured I'd include them in case someone could make a compelling argument for them.

As far as the Peavy part of my question, I'm looking to deal him. There is going to be a lot of pitching talent going back into the draft (the draft starts with round 1, which is really round 7 after teams keep 6). I own the 9th, 10th and 15th picks after keepers are drafted with our first 6 picks. Because there is so much pitching talent going back in the draft, the number of picks I have in the top 15 and the unique scoring format, I'm offering Peavy and my 5th round pick (round 11 essentially) for Curtis Granderson and that owners 3rd (9th round) selection. Granderson is a unique triples specialist. By acquiring him, and owning Halladay, I'd have a mild leg up in two unique categories (CG's and Triples), which can hopefully nab me a few extra w's over the course of the season. Any help on my questions would be greatly appreciated. And as always, I'll help any responses if you leave a link to your question (even if it's a discussion in another forum). Thanks!

I agree about Halladay, so keep him. I would deal Peavy for Granderson, that pick, and a grade B arm, like an Adam Wainwright. I think you have to get an arm back in the deal even though you are keeping Halladay.
Jay Bruce is mah franchize. I love you Chris Davis!

thanks for the help with mine. I also would go with Doc as he should help with some of the unique categories. I don't think that i would do the trade with peavy though. He is too valuable and while granderson does get a lot of triples i don't think him and a round 9 pick would give you enough value back. When drafting i would look for a couple of the speed demons who are more likely to leg out triples. I have responded to some of the questions that you asked on my post if you want to revisit it. thanks a lot

I think I'd keep Halladay and Upton over Peavy....especially since you are looking to deal him. With these settings, Halladay is more valuable than Peavy. Also, there's a good chance the labrum surgery will actually help Upton.

I would go with Halladay and Upton (over Peavy). I actually owned big Roy in a league with CG's two years ago and was very satisfied with his tremendous potential to win that category almost single handedly.

As for the Peavy/ Bossman debate- you don't really know what park Peavy is going end up in WHEN he gets traded so there is some serious risk there I would have to think. BJ is going to help you in steals and with longoria in his lineup will get you runs as well. I would go Hallady adn Upton.

Thanks for the help with mine.

I'd keep Peavy and Upton. Halladay has too many games against strong lineups in the AL East.

I'd keep Upton with the 6th spot. If Halladay is that valuable, I'd consider pairing him up with another of your keepers for an even better upgrade. I'm not a fan of chasing extra categories especially in pitching and especially in H2H.

I'd rather have Upton than Halladay. I would want more than Granderson for Peavy.
