I know the text is the worst part, and i relize if i can't even do text on sigs i've got no chance with it on walls

not a bad start. i feel like its too empty though. i would add a few more layers to the background and like you said, the text is not very good. try adding donovan mcnabb throwing over an outstretched antoine winfield with westbrook scoring a td. that may help

on a different note, i've been playing with my 30 day photoshop trial. it has a crap load of more things to do compared to gimp

Nice clean look but I agree with Snakes the background could use a little more work. Add a couple different stocks in there and maybe a logo or something. Obviously you know the text needs work, but that will come. I am not sure about that border around Gaborik. I know it helps to set him into the background, but it stands out quite a bit. Maybe if you lighten that up a bit it wont stand out as much and it will still help blend the Gaborik pic into the background. Overall though very nice first wallpaper abrage.

I like it, but it looks unfinished. It has a good start, just needs more details that compliment your focus
