Just traded for Kinsler. Is he a future 1st/2nd rd pick?

Postby kemper5 » Sat Dec 27, 2008 4:30 pm

I have to keep 5 guys in my 12 man 5x5 keeper league and just traded Aram and Ichiro for Kinsler. So my Keepers are Arod,Kinsler,Josh Hamilton, Berkman and Holliday

My question is this..Is Kinsler a future 1st round pick to very early 2nd rd pick? I think he may be. Here is what Bill James, Baseball Notebook and Shandler have him pegged at in 09'....NICE!!

BB Notebook 24 HR's, 90 RBI, 103 Runs, 25 SB, .296 Ave
Shandler 23 HR's, 92 RBI's, 105 Runs, 26 SB's, .303 Ave
James 22 HR's, 82 RBI's, 108 Runs, 25 SB's, .291 Ave

hes going early to mid 2nd round now in most mocks. if he can keep up last years production and stay healthy throughout the season, i could easily see him becoming a 1st round pick.

I'm not as bullish as most others as Kinsler, but considering the parameters of your keeper league, you did quite well with that trade. He is certainly more valuable than ARam or Ichiro.

Last year he missed almost a month and a half. He was on pace for 24-26 HR's 90+ RBI's, 30+ bags, .315+ ave, and about 115 runs..WOW! ;-D

I think he can be high second round to low first round. Depends on whether he can stay healthy. Regardless, I like the trade you made. He'll easily top what either Aram or Ichiro can do in a year.

As long as Kinsler is healthy (which has been somewhat of an obstacle), I don't see how he can't produce like a 1st rounder. He's easily an early 2nd round pick in my book this year.

As long as his hamstrings don't prove to be a lingering problem I could definitely see him playing his way into the late 1st round in the future. He possesses a rare blend of power and speed, and does it from a offensively challenged position (to say the least). Most people would be happy putting his numbers in their OF, you'll be putting them in at a position where someone is trotting out a guy like Placido Polanco who posts a high batting average and nothing else, or Dan Uggla who posts solid HR and RBI totals but is a drag on BA and does little for speed, not to mention some of the other guys who will be occupying teams 2B positions. I hope that was of some help, would you mind helping on mine please? Good luck, and thanks in advance!
