Keeper with Draft Value System

Postby NUTZ » Sat Dec 27, 2008 8:54 am

Hello People!
I'am in a 12 team 4 Division's
I started out ok but fell flat on my face.
This year the League wants to us a DRAFT VALUE SYSTEM and I really need your help!

DV System=

The Draft Value System has been put in place for owners to consider keepers for next season. The draft Value is determined by where a player was drafted in the 2008 live draft. e.g. Matt Holiday was selected in Round 1 by the Motown Sabres. He would be a DV1.

Waiver additions are assigned the DV that the player released had. E.g. If Matt Holiday was released for Jay Bruce. Bruce would be a DV1 for this season.

DV's are assigned for the entire season and remain constant. Once a Value has been assigned it does not change until the following year.

If a player was added because an owner placed a player on IR then the new player assumes the DV of the inured player.

At the end of the Year we will subtract 3 from the DV's to determine the Draft Value for 2009. E.G.
Brian Mcann was drafted in the 6th round in 2008. He is a DV6. In 2009 we subtract 3 to make him a DV 3. If the owner who owns the rights to Mcann chooses to he could protect mcann for a 3rd round pick in '09. or Mcann would be his 3rd round pick in '09 if you will.

Players who draft Values fall to zero or below 1 are not eligible to be protected. This keeps the top players in play each year during the draft.
The Idea is to allow owners to build on young and up and coming players while still having to draft smart during the early rounds when picking top flight player's.

Give me some advice as who I should keep with a DVS:
Soto, Geovany C CHC A TBA DV7
Giambi, Jason DH NYY A TBA DV16
Weeks, Rickie 2B MIL A TBA DV17

i finally got ahold of commish and dv system might be adjusted... After that You are only limited by the number of draft picks you want to give up to protect certain players.

Any limit to the # of keepers? If not, heck....I'd keep them all and only throw back Ponson, Pedro and de la Rosa. It looks like your lineup is below. You have a lot of U's you could trade....you need a SS for future years. I'd look to upgrade 2B and add to your SP's.
C Soto
1B Jacobs
2B Weeks
SS Hanley
3B Kouz
OF Crawford
OF Soriano
OF Bruce
U Giambi
U Thome
U Bradley
U Nady
U Fukudome
U Murphy

SP Billingsley
SP Cueto
SP Sheets
SP Wainwright
CL Valverde
CL Rivera
CL Papelbon

I could see taking Soto but a 7th round pick seems a little high to me.

I thought about both of them. A 2nd for Soriano is about right but it leaves you with out a draft pick until round 3. If there is any way you can see what player might be available then I would if not Soriano is not a bad choice. I will say that he is not a player I like very much and would probably try and move him instead of keeping him. At 32 he is on the decline. As for Nady, it all depends on whether he will be starting or not. The Yankees OF is getting crowded with Damon, Matsui, Swisher, Nady and Melky. And there is a good chance of them signing OF this off season which would mean that Nady will have a hard time finding at bats. With only a 22nd pick it might be worth the risk though.

those are pretty clear choices imo, depending on what kind of players are being sent back into the draft i could see keeping papelbon and rivera as well. this is assuming theres no keeper limit obviously.
