I'd do the trade. Soria is a dime a dozen closer. With OBP and SLG as extra catergories, Dunn is quite valuable. Unlike many others, I don't see a dramatic difference between Hanley and Reyes.
Really interesting situation. I would prefer the Hanley side because I think he is still going to improve in the next couple of seasons and should dominate for a long time. Also, if he continues to increase his power numbers he would lessen the need for you to acquire dunn. Soria is a fantastic closer and probably in the top 10.
Unloading hanley is just risky for no reason. I think you pass up this one. Maybe try offering something else for dunn?
I would go ahead and do it, but I hate trading Hanley.......even if you are getting the no. 2 SS back. Dunn represents too much of an upgrade over Soria to not make the trade, but as Dodger above, I am still hesitant to move Hanley. Go with your gut IMO.
I'd do this deal. Reyes isn't that far of a drop off from Hanley, plus you know you're getting 40 bombs from Dunn. Yeah he hurts you in ave, but makes up for it in OBP and SLUG.
if Ks dont count against batters dunns value goes way up. id def make the deal in that case. If Ks are a negative, it makes it tougher. i also think sorias value wont get any higher, i dont think he can repeat his performance from last year. i say make the trade
I'm a Dunn hater, but I think you should do this deal. My initial thinking was pass, but I have changed my mind. All that said, I think you take it for the value, and flip Dunn. His batting average is so miserable I'd try to turn around and peddle him for someone with a slight decrease in OBP/SLG and HR's just so you don't hurt your batting average so severely. Maybe try and flip him for Adrian Gonzalez if that particular owner is worried about the firesale in SD. Just my two cents. Help with mine would be greatly appreciated, and hope my advice is of some assistance.
Don't do this. Hanley is a five-category star, and you don't need to stick yourself with both Reyes and Wright together when you can avoid it. Dunn's value is higher in the system your league plays in, but that isn't enough. To the guy that called Soria a dime-a-dozen closer, take a closer look at what he did last year. The guy is just amazing, and his talent matches what he did in 2008. Expect more dominance. I'd keep Hanley and Joakim.
I think I'd take the deal either way but is there any chance the other guy will take lidge instead of soria? If reyes is somehow able to add 20 hr as some have suggested I believe Reyes at: 115/20/70/60 - .297, .357, .475 is quite comparable to Hanley at: 125/33/70/35 - .301, .400, .540. I think Reyes and Hanley have an equally strong chance of stealing more bases than last year. When ll else is equal, steals are roughly twice as valuable as HR (standing alone). What increases the value of HR relative to steals is the additional R and RBI (percentages as well but in this case this is marginal) but since they both lead off and provide similar lines in these cats I think the additional steals provided by Reyes are often undervalued. Of course, reyes' value is largely tied to his speed so this creates additional risk.
My only hesitation is that with Dunn he wins the youth vote which is obviously big in a dynasty. If he is willing to take lidge you might be giving up the better closer for a year or two but would most likely win in the long run. *Edit - Lidge will surely give you more K's and Soria will likely provide better ERA and WHIP. Both should provide close to 40 saves.
All in all I think its a close deal but believe that he should be willing to take the older closer since he's shedding Dunn (likely at the tail end of his prime) and getting arguably the best player in your format (pujols is best in a yearly format but I give the edge to Hanley in a dynasty).
