Another Keeper Question

Postby jazzmanljg » Wed Dec 24, 2008 11:23 pm

Okay, 14 team auction roto league with standard 5x5 stats. We have 5 OF spots plus CI, MI, and Util. The rest is standard. We keep 8. You can option a player for one year at his current salary of sign him to a multi-year deal, but his salary goes up $5 per year.

I only have one player under contract for next year right now and that is Papelbon for $18.

I'm looking for 7 more and these are the guys I have in narrowed down to these (with my opinions):

G. Soto - $6 (option)
K. Youkilis - $11 (option)
M. Cabrera - $36 (top sluggers usually go for $35-45, so I could get him in auction again for about this)
C. Davis - $6 (option, 1B/3B eligible)
M. Aviles - $1 (dual 2B/SS would make good MI)
R. Furcal - $11 (tempting, but injuries could make this price possible in auction again)
A. Ethier - $1 (option)
T. Snyder - $3 (long term contract is tempting, but if he takes a while I could way overpay)
Z. Greinke - $4 (option)
J. Cueto - $3 (option?, contract? this guy could be the biggest steal or bust IMO)
M. Pelfrey - $1 (cheap arm on a good team, good value)

I'm pretty set on Soto, Youk, Davis, Ethier, and Greinke. That would mean I need two more out of Cabrera, Aviles, Furcal, Snyder, Cueto, and Pelfrey. If I had to pick tonight I would go with Cueto and Pelfrey. Am I on the right track? Thoughts? I will gladly help in return. Thanks!

agreed Cueto, tho I might just option him.In leagues where you start 42 MI, Aviles has alot more value than most leagues. hard to be too wrong on either him or Pelfrey. Greinke is the guy I might sign before Cueto.

in my auction roto keeper league, there is an absolute ton of inflation in the draft for the big name players that get sent back into the draft pool. cabrera would probably go for something like $45 minimum. i would assume auction values actually fluctuate quite a bit from league to league, so it's really your call on whether cabrera is worth keeping. i know in my league i'd be keeping cueto and cabrera. if you really think you can get cabrera back in the draft for less of an increase than it will take you to get pelfrey back in the draft (and i kinda doubt pelfrey goes for all that much as he's been a very late pick in the mocks i've seen so far), then i'd keep pelfrey, but it comes down to your own read on how your draft usually goes.

Cabrera is a definite. Make sure you get the first round talent at a uninflated price with the rest of your keepers at good prices. Keeper #8 is tough. Cueto, Aviles, Pelfrey and Furcal all have good cases.....I'd go with Cueto.

G. Soto - $6 (option) ;-D
K. Youkilis - $11 (option) ;-D good value with 42 CIs taken
M. Cabrera - $36 (top sluggers usually go for $35-45, so I could get him in auction again for about this)
C. Davis - $6 (option, 1B/3B eligible) ;-D should bring back 3x the $6
M. Aviles - $1 (dual 2B/SS would make good MI) ;-D with 42 MIs in the draft
R. Furcal - $11 (tempting, but injuries could make this price possible in auction again) ;-D a buck too much
A. Ethier - $1 (option) ;-D worth 10x$1
T. Snyder - $3 (long term contract is tempting, but if he takes a while I could way overpay)
Z. Greinke - $4 (option) ;-D not bad for $15 worth of stats
J. Cueto - $3 (option?, contract? this guy could be the biggest steal or bust IMO)
M. Pelfrey - $1 (cheap arm on a good team, good value)

Edit: Mcab's value with your settings is only about $25, grab him on the rebound if you want to over pay.
