I actually like Fowler in roto because of his SB potential. I guess I would need to figure out whether LaPorta was going to be a .265, 30 HR guy or a .280, 40 HR guy. Obviously the latter is fantastic, but 40 HR potential does not equal likely 40 HR avg in his prime.

I guess I am in the minority as well in that I would rather have Fowler for standard 5x5. LaPorta got a lot of hype last season do his first half and involvement in the Sabathia trade, but there are people are who not sold on him as a sure shot.

Fowler def. has a chance at the CF job. He is their best prospect. Podsednik is supposedly playing CF in Winter Ball to compete for the job. You might see 2 young guys(Gonzalez and Fowler) starting in that OF. I had LaPorta and Fowler both in my farm in my NL keeper league. Lost LaPorta when he went to AL. No compensation whatsoever. I picked him #1 overall in our minors draft last year. I think, long term, Fowler is the more complete player. And playing for the Rockies sure doesn't hurt him.

What about Ian Stewart? I thought I'd read that Stewart would play in LF, leaving only one spot for Gonzalez or Fowler...

And yeah, I'll agree with the consensus, Fowler over Laporta when defense is considered.

yes ian stewart has been rumored to play OF, but i think he will end up starting at 2B over clint barmes. as long as atkins doesn't get traded he will be starting at 3rd and as long as helton doesn't get injured he will be playing first. with tulo at SS, that only leaves 2B open in the infield which is owned by clint barmes right now. even though barmes had a solid season last year i think they will give stewart 2B as long as he doesn't commit errors. if stewart does start the season in LF...gonzalez will be given CF and hawpe in LF which means fowler will start the season in AAA.

Does anyone know what is the breakdown for positions that Matt LaPorta, trying to see what he will be eligible for this year.

I think its either LF or 1B for him... 1B if Garko fails and they don't just put V-mart there... not really great competition in LF, David Delluci, Ben Francisco...?
