Trade or Hold Tight?

Postby IrishDrunk » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:02 am

Looking for some help with my 4th and final keeper in a 12 team, H2H league. (3 no brainers = Johan Santana, Carlos Lee, and Even Longoria).

For my 4th, I can stand pat with either Adam Wainwright or Ichiro Suziki.

OR, I've been offered a deal for Scott Kazmir (for a 3rd and 5th round pick currently).

I'm was leaning toward Ichiro (we start 3 OFs + 1 Utility), but, since we start 4 SPs, I could go Wainwright, since SO many SP's will be kept...Ichiro had a "solid" season last year, but, seems to be dropping off...while Wainwright is a bit of an injury risk...

If I do the Kazmir deal, I'm giving up straight draft picks, which hurts my draft, obviously, plus, the Yanks and Red Sox have loaded up, so, that division will be a lot more competitive for the Rays...Also, Kazmir's constant high pitch count, and his removal from many games before the 6th inning, worry me a tad...

Any help is appreciated. ;-D

I think keeping Ichiro is a no-brainer. Don't fool yourself into thinking that SP is essentially gone after 4 rounds. It isn't. In fact, it has barely begun. There are going to be tons of pitchers available, even in the latter rounds.

Don't make the trade...doesn't matter who you keep, just DON'T MAKE THE TRADE. Those picks are waaaaay too early be giving up for Kazmir...he's a good pitcher but he's also injury prone and in the AL East. And until he learns to pitch deeper into games his win total will never rank with the top pitchers.

I'd probably go with Ichiro as well. He's still a hell of a bat, and as long as he keeps running he's a top 50 keeper. Wainwright is a hell of a pitcher, but he doesn't have the K totals to be a top 10 or 15 guy. I'd rather go with the speed now (especially since you have about 10 combined SB with your other two keepers), and wait on the SP.

Ichiro is the play of these options. If you can get a much better hitter than Kaz I'd certainly consider moving picks to upgrade, you don't want 2 of your 1st 4 players to be pitchers if you can help it

You have to keep Ichiro. As for the trade, I'd take my chances with the draft picks.

Stay with Ichiro. Also, that trade is basically Ichiro, a 3rd and a 5th for Kazmir as far as you are concerned. No way would you do that.

Keep Ichiro. He's not done yet. You'll be glad you still have those picks .
