Which 8 to Keep?

Postby Renshaw » Sun Dec 21, 2008 12:37 pm

10 Team H2H 6x6 Keeper League, we keep 8 players.

Here's my team:

C Victor Martinez
1B David Ortiz
2B Alexei Ramirez
3B Aramis Ramirez
SS Ryan Theriot
OF Carlos Beltran
OF Jermaine Dye
OF Magglio Ordonez
Util Corey Hart
Util Ryan Zimmerman
Bench Melvin Mora
Bench Brad Hawpe
Bench Kelly Shoppach
Bench David Murphy

SP Roy Halladay
SP Jake Peavy
SP Chad Billingsley
RP Trevor Hoffman
RP Mariano Rivera
P J.C. Romero
P Jose Arredondo
P Cliff Lee
Bench Ryan Dempster
Bench Mike Mussina
Bench Zack Greinke
Bench Nick Blackburn
Bench Dustin McGowan

I do have some potential trades in the works. Been trying to make a trade for Albert Pujols but the manager is very slow at getting back to me. Other potential deals that have been talked out are:

#1:
I give: David Ortiz
I get: Grady Sizmore

#2:
I give: Jake Peavy/David Ortiz
I get: Jason Bay/Carlos Zambrano

I'm more of a fan of #1 than #2. Which might work out, since the Pujols deal is basically dependent on Jake Peavy so if I can move Ortiz for Sizemore and then Peavy and, maybe, Beltran for Pujols in a deal, that would make a nice little turnaround IMO.

Anyways, Thanks in advance. WHIR.

I don't like keeping 3 SP but in your case I think you need to. I would jump all over trade #1 and I would add a player (one of your low keepers) because you have a couple of players that are almost keeper worthy that you could plug into the keeper role. Getting Sizemore in a keeper is a huge upgrade over Ortiz imo. I like big bats but you should be able to fill your 1B hole early in the draft as there will likely be a couple of good 1B not kept.

I would not consider trade #2.

I would probably keep:

Ortiz
Alexei Ramirez
Aramis Ramirez
Carlos Beltran
Magglio Ordonez
Roy Halladay
Jake Peavy
Chad Billingsly

As mentioned, it is tough to keep 3 starters, especially in a 10 team league. However, you have to keep Halladay and PEavy, and Billingsley was pretty amazing last year - better than VMart/Corey Hart for sure, and I like him more than Mo as a keeper.

I would make the first trade, but I think you lose badly in the second trade.

There always is, yeah. But thats also sort of why I'm looking into a trade for Pujols. Would involve me dealing Peavy and probably a big bat (I'm leaning towards Beltran if I get Sizemore).

Maybe if I offered Hart with Ortiz? I mean, Hart still has the power and speed...

Id have to say you Keep:
Ortiz, Alexi, Aramis, Beltran, Maggs, Zimmerman, Peavy, Halladay and Billingsly...
I would also be all over the Ortiz/Sizemore trade. One trade was also mentioned...i think it was Peavy/Hart for a 1b and that would be pretty solid too

Thanks for the input. Really just shows that my last 3 keeper spots are still in the air.

Anyways, the Sizemore/Ortiz deal isn't finalized as that. I haven't heard back, but I think I might have to add a player, and I'm thinking that might be Hart, so that the original owner maintains his speed.

As for the other deal, I declined, and the manager is still interested in Peavy. He mentioned that he might be willing to deal one of Bay, Rollins, Berkman or Quentin straight up for Peavy.

I also have a deal for Pujols in the possible works, and have talked with the owner of Hamels as well (but that one isn't as thought out since he rarely returns messages, lol).

So right now I'm looking at:

#1:
David Ortiz/Corey Hart for Grady Sizemore (I still think it's a great deal considering Hart may not be kept by me)

#2:
Jake Peavy for one of Bay/Rollins/Berkman/Quentin (I'd be more interested in Berkman or Rollins)
