NL only keeper/trade questions

Postby prusaw » Sun Dec 21, 2008 11:31 am

NL only $280 cap, 5x5 roto

My current keepers are:

Santana - 39
Wright- 40
Utley- 36
A. Ramirez- 26
R. Martin- 8
Tulowitski- 6
Hawpe- 9

I could likely get Fielder, Mclouth and Harden for Utley (however this means dropping Tulo and Hawpe from my keeper list). Is it really worth it??

Also-- How critical is it that I reduce my keeper salary before the season? Would it be better to retain my current players, draft frugally and then move keeper value for current value once the season begins?

(I do have Marmol at $6, whom I could keep-- with the salaries I have, I'll not likely be able to afford a good closer in the draft-- though cheap saves can be picked up throughout the season)

I need to know th prices of Fielder, McLouth and Harden to make a good decision. Also, what quality of players will be in the upcoming auction/draft.

Fielder will probably be about 25-30, Mclouth is a bargain at 7 and Harden will be about 20

Looks like first rounders will be players like Harang, Kershaw, Vasquez, Votto, Delgado, J. Johnson (there are 49 keepers kept out of the draft)

7 team league ? 23 man rosters ?
i'd be tempted to get marmol over hawpe anyway and save the $3
utley's hip worries me and i like the $29 savings if you did the trade and kept mclouth (20-20 guy) and waived fielder and harden..that leaves you w/$148 after your 7 keepers which is 5 very solid hitters and a stud SP and closer..good start in such a shallow league..then votto or fielder could be purchased for around 25-30 right ? i would load up on offense at auction..in such a shallow league there should be a lot of effective pitching to be had cheap or off the waiver wire ..

I think I would do it. Fielder saves you a couple of bucks over Utley (who does now have health questions). McLouth is a nice upgrade over Hawpe. I would keep Tulo over Harden at their prices. It sounds like you have a good handle on your draft/in season strategies....I tend to hold onto keeper value over current value too long.

I agree that Fielder and McLouth should both be better bargains than Utley in '09.

i'd probably do it. mclouth is the main piece of this deal as his price is great, fielder is also a pretty good bargain at that price. harden isn't worth keeping at $20 so i'd just throw him back and keep tulo.
