Help me pick my keepers

Postby Timgeorge2 » Sat Dec 20, 2008 4:11 pm

I get to pick up to 9 guys as keepers for this year. I have plenty of time to decide, but thought I'd start getting an idea of who I was going to go with. Here's what I have...

Howard
Rollins
Cabrera
Kemp
Holliday
Lincecum
Hamels

I think those 7 are pretty much locks as keepers. Then I have an other group of guys to pick from...

Broxton
Verlander
Doumit
Fuentes
Maine
Ethier
Bradley
DeRosa

i'd narrow it down to broxton, fuentes, ethier, bradley and verlander

since you have time before the draft, i think you need to see where fuentes and bradley end up before deciding. i'm like 99% sure fuentes will end up in a closer role, though others are not so sure. if he does end up on a team where he'll close i'd use one of the spots on him. if not i'd probably keep broxton. with the other spot i'd probably keep bradley if he ends up on an AL team where he can DH (such as the rays). i dont really trust him to stay healthy if he has to play the field every day, however, so if he ends up on an NL team i'd probably keep ethier or verlander. probably ethier as you already have 2 very good starters.

I agree with the post above, I would monitor and narrow down to these four choices.

Either
Bradley
Fuentes
DeRosa

If DeRosa ended up with a starting job with a good hitting team, I would take him, as 2b/SS is so thin this year. DeRosa is a underrated hitter for a 2b if he can land a staring position.

I next choice would be Fuentes, if he closes.

Third choice Either.

Last choice Bradley. Why keep a guy like this when so many will overlook him in a draft situation. You probably have almost a 100% chance of drafting him.

No love for the 24 year old Broxton...he's alot younger than Fuentes (whoops) and should get alot of saves chances for the Dodgers. He's just plain nasty. Verlander had a rough year last year, but he's still a young guy with great stuff. I can't imagine keeping a 33 year old DeRosa over either of those guys.

i just think fuentes will be better than broxton this year, and if signed as a closer, will have more job security than broxton does.
