Keeper Options, Which one to choose?

Postby pjalst » Sat Dec 20, 2008 2:22 pm

I'm in a 12 team 5X5, roto keeper. We keep 8, My keepers are Hilighted, but I've been having thoughts about making a change. My options are listed below the roster. Any suggestions will be appreciated. If you have an alternate option please share it with me.

C Brian McCann (Atl - C)
1B Carlos Peña (TB - 1B)
2B B.J. Upton (TB - 2B,OF)
3B Jorge Cantú (Fla - 1B,3B)
SS Aaron Miles (StL - 2B,3B,SS)
CI David Ortiz (Bos - 1B)
MI Marco Scutaro (Tor - 2B,3B,SS,OF)
OF Jermaine Dye (CWS - OF)
OF Randy Winn (SF - OF)
OF Hunter Pence (Hou - OF)
OF J.D. Drew (Bos - OF)
Util Skip Schumaker (StL - OF)
BN Jayson Werth (Phi - OF)
BN Casey Blake (LAD - 1B,3B,OF)
DL Carlos Lee (Hou - OF) DL

Pitching
SP Justin Verlander (Det - SP)
SP Mike Pelfrey (NYM - SP)
RP Brian Fuentes (Col - RP)
RP Salomón Torres (Mil - RP)
P Randy Wolf (Hou - SP)
P Gavin Floyd (CWS - SP,RP)
P Adam Wainwright (StL - SP)
BN Johnny Cueto (Cin - SP)
BN Jeremy Sowers (Cle - SP)
BN Paul Maholm (Pit - SP)
BN Jesse Litsch (Tor - SP)

Option 1 - Instead of Verlander keep Cueto

Option 2 - instead of Verlander or Cueto, only keep 1 arm(Wainwright) and add a bat(Pena) as a keeper and target Pitching with my 1st couple of draft picks

Option 3 - instead of McCann keep Pena

I'm a Carlos Pena fan, I know some people aren't very high on him, but even those guys would probably tell you to keep Pena here.

McCann
Pena
Upton
Ortiz
Dye
Pence
Lee

These were easy decisions IMO. I'm not sure who would be the 8th keeper. I'd like to say Verlander, but after last year, I just don't know. Cueto has the highest upside, but he's also the most dangerous one. Wainwright doesn't have the upside Cueto has, but he's the safest bet of the three. I'd probably keep Verlander and hope he bounces back. If he's back to 2007 form, he'll be very good.

I like the way you have it. I would keep McCann because the c position is slim.

You've got 9, perhaps 10 legit keepers. Can you trade before you select your keepers?

I think Cueto is going to breakout this year, so I am in favor of keeping him,but Verlander and Wainwright are worthy of keeping also.

You're loaded in the OF. I would try to pair an OF and an SP and do a 2 for 1 trade. This will require you to keep Verlander, since last year was such a bust his trade value is very low.

If you can't trade, I would keep Cueto over either Verlander or Dye.

I think Verlander is the one who is over-rated. I would keep Pena instead of Verlander.

I'd keep Verlander instead of Wainwright. I'm all for keeping bats before pitching.

Thanks for all the input so far. I really Like Cueto, I may decide to keep him and either verlander or Wainwright. I'll put both Verlader and Wainwright on the block to see if I get any takers.
