Keeper value of these players: WHIR

Postby MrE » Fri Dec 19, 2008 8:24 am

Please rank these players in terms of keeper value over the next 2-3 years. I.e., if it was your draft slot and you had to decide, who would you take:

1) John Lackey
2) Scott Kazmir
3) Bobby Abreu
4) Russel Martin
5) Victor Martinez
6) Ryan Zimmerman
7) Torri Hunter
8) Chris Davis
9) Justin Upton
10) Garret Atkins

Leave a link, and I will return the favor

Here is my current keeper list if it helps:

1b - Prince Fielder
3b - Miguel Cabrera (last year at 3b)
OF - BJ Upton
OF - Matt Holliday
OF - Alex Rios
Util - David Ortiz

SP - Brandon Webb
SP - Jake Peavy
SP - Justin Verlander
RP - Jonathon Papelbon

I had a tough time ranking these players. A lot of these guys have a lot of potential, but it is hard to figure out who will pan out. I would rank Upton #2 if this were a limitless (in terms of years) keeper league.

1) John Lackey
2) Scott Kazmir
3) Justin Upton
4) Chris Davis
5) Russel Martin
6) Ryan Zimmerman
7) Torri Hunter
8) Victor Martinez
9) Garret Atkins
10) Bobby Abreu

Just off the top of my head...

1. Russell Martin
2. Chris Davis
3. Bobby Abreu
4. Ryan Zimmerman
5. Victor Martinez
6. Scott Kazmir
7. John Lackey
8. Garrett Atkins
9. Justin Upton
10. Torii Hunter

I'd rank Atkins higher if this was a 1 year deal, I'd rank Justin Upton higher if it was longer than 2-3 years.

Thank you so much guys. I can clearly see a wide divergence of opinions. Can anyone else help me out? If it helps, this is my keeper status at this time:

1b - Prince Fielder
3b - Miguel Cabrera (last year at 3b)
OF - BJ Upton
OF - Matt Holliday
OF - Alex Rios
Util - David Ortiz

SP - Brandon Webb
SP - Jake Peavy
SP - Justin Verlander
RP - Jonathon Papelbon

John Lackey
Russell Martin
Scott Kazmir
Chris Davis
Ryan Zimmerman
Victor Martinez
Justin Upton
Garrett Atkins
Bobby Abreu
Torii Hunter

Harder than I thought it might be. I do agree with the above two that Upton would get higher consideration if it was longer than 2-3 and Atkins more if it was 1.

I'm not the biggest Abreu fan, so, that might be skewed, but, I think he's going to drop off dramatically this year...alternatively, I think V-Mart is going to return to form - his "undisclosed" arm injury killed his power...he should keep Catcher eligibility this year and at least next year (if they end up shipping him to 1st)...
