Keeper league trade...Haren for Mauer

Postby UMTerp29 » Thu Dec 18, 2008 10:33 am

I was offered Mauer straight up for Haren. I have them ranked fairly closer for next year, but leaning towards no so I can build my staff around Haren and Peavy. Looking for other opinions. Below is my roster, keep 6. Thanks.

Pierzynski
Fielder
Aviles
Chipper
Tulo
Kemp
Bay
Quentin
V. Wells
Atkins
Lind

Peavy
Haren
B. Myers
W. Rodriguez
Baker
Lohse
Qualls
Torres
Lindstrom

Think I'd rather have Haren/AJ, as opposed to Mauer/less than Haren. Mauer would give you a better BA. than AJ, but not much more than that. Keep Haren.

I have them similarly ranked as well, so really it is an even trade. Looking at the 6 you would keep, the first 5 will be the same whether you do the deal or not - Fielder, Kemp, Quentin, Bay, Peavy. So it obviously comes down to whether you want Haren or Mauer.

Although I've never been one to say that drafting a C early is *always* stupid, I think that this year more than ever in recent history is filled with quality catchers you can get later in the draft. With only keeping 6, I'm sure a whole bunch will be available come draft day. I'd stick with Haren.

I almost always choose a hitter over a pitcher when the perceived value is close but I'd have to say that Mauer carries more injury risk than Haren.

I wouldn't do that trade. I'd keep Haren over Mauer. There is depth to be had at the catcher position this year.

I'd also keep Haren over Mauer though it is close. I'm surprised there isvotes for Bay over Chipper as a keeper though...

I am not sure that I would keep either of Haren or Mauer.

You have:
Fielder
Chipper
Kemp
Bay
Peavy
Quinten
Atkins
there are 7 players I would lean to over Haren/Mauer.

So than it comes down to trying to project which players might get drafted before you. If 2 or 3 teams ahead of you keep C's than do the trade and don't keep Mauer so he might fall to you. If there are alot of P's being kept don't do the trade and maybe Haren will fall to you.

it IS an even trade I don't know why you'd want to swap your guy for his guy; I'd want to get someone a little bit better if I'm giving up 1 of my own. If your league only starts 1 C I'd pass & pick someone up late

I would stick with Haren. I like Mauer, but I think getting Doumit, Ianetta, or Wieters much later would be even better.

Call me crazy, but I like Mauer here. He was good last season, and he's a huge step above other Catchers.

You've already got Peavy to build your SP around, so I'd stick with hitters here.
