dynasty trade

Postby dday0606 » Wed Dec 17, 2008 7:15 pm

Hi,
This is my first post, even though I've been a long time reader. I just recieved an offer that I can't decide on and looking for more opinions.

17 team keeper, 8 players kept each year, 9x9 roto (BA, FPCT, H, HR, KO, OPS, R, RBI, SB x CG, ERA, HD, HRA, INN, K, S, W, Whip)

Trade offer: Vladdie & AJ Burnett for Adrian Gonzalez & Ludwick

My list of potential keepers: Braun, Bay, Vladdie, Jeter, Beckett, Burnett, Broxton, Harang, Scherzer

I don't like this deal. AGone would be a nice pickup but I don't see Ludwick putting up the same numbers. I am in favor of trading Vlad as he is also on the decline and Burnett is usually good for a DL stint but I would think you could get a better deal than this.

Welcome to The Cafe . I wouldn't do that trade. Vlad may be slipping a little , but he's still easily a top 50 player. With Burnett going to the Yankees , he should be able to get a few more wins.
Ludwick is not a sure thing . Vlad is. I do like Gonzalez, but this deal is not good enough.

Thanks for the information, I was leaning that way as well, but I wanted a couple other opinions.

I'm going to go against the grain and say I'd take that deal for two reasons - it's a keeper, and the categories.

Because of who you'd be trading away, you obviously receive an upgrade in the age factor.

With the categories, I see the players you'd be trading away having obvious deficiencies. Vlad has been a historically mediocre defender, and with FPCT as a category, his defense negatively effect you here. Ludwick and AGon have very high fielding percentages, and will have have the opposite effect. Although Vlad does K less, he is older and obviously declining, brittle, and will have similar numbers across the rest of the categories.

With Burnett, he's likely to get injured, which not only matters for the counting stats but for IP (a category of yours). He also has a below average BB rate (another category of yours). Plus, with all the pitchers you are keeping, getting a quality 1B and OF in return for a declining old OF and injury-prone overrated SP is exactly what you're looking for.

I think this is a no-brainer deal. As of right now, AGon and Vlad have similar ADPs, and Ludwick is going 3 or so rounds ahead of Burnett - and that's even in redraft leagues. I'd do it.

you've brought up some good points. I've done more looking at draft positions and your right, it does seem like I'd be getting more value. Anyone else have thoughts?

In a standard league I wouldn't even think about doing this deal. But with how your league is set up, I think you have to take this deal. ;-D
