Matt Gamel

Postby triple3play » Mon Dec 15, 2008 2:19 am

A guy in my dynasty league is after my Matt Gamel. Below is his team. I dont really have any major needs although a backup 2B and a future SS would be welcome. So Blake DeWitt and Alcides Escobar are two guys I like. What would you ask for in return for Gamel? Also we have our rookie/free agent draft (5 rounds) comming up and we can trade picks, so keep that in mind. I dont really know how to rank Gamel. His second half last year was very disappointing, i dont know if he will stick at third so his value will probably take a hit. Should I sell now or do you see his stock rising during the year? any input is greatly appreaciated and whir. thanks

I think Gamel and Escobar are pretty comparable as prospects at this point, though I think Gamel is rated a bit higher. I'd shoot for Escobar+ a pick or even Escobar and Dewitt (I'm not very high on him) and then come down if you need to.

I think Escobar and Gamel will be rated similarly. I am not a big Gamel fan, as I think he will have a solid career, but I don't think he will be an perennial All Star guy. Escobar is rated so highly by some prospect sites due to his stellar defense. However, last year he also started to show some potential with the stick, and should swipe some bags. The only problem is that unless Weeks is dealt and Hardy shifted to 2B, Escobar will likely be in AAA.

I think a straight up swap will be just about even, so anything you can get on top of that will be golden.

I wouldn't do the trade unless you get Escobar and a pick. then I'd do the trade. I'm no fan of DeWitt so I wouldn't bother with him.

Escobar and a pick sounds worth it to me.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.

A second thought, make the pick a high one, tell him that Escobar is only hitting .229 in Venezuela this winter.
