2009 Median Draft Position (MDP) Report (Updated 4/1/09)

Postby rookies and cream » Sun Dec 14, 2008 12:55 am

Here's version 5.1 of the MDP report (Updated on 4/1/09).

For those of you that are new around here, the MDP report is a compilation of ADP's from various sites. It can be used as a tool to approximate where players will be drafted. In the end, ADP's from Yahoo, ESPN, CBS, Mock Draft Central, Couch Managers, Fantasy Gameday, NFBC, and possibly Fox (if they don't suck again) will be accounted for in the report. Special thanks to Mock Draft Central for providing me with their data this year. Note: I decided to use the median rather than mean (average) statistic, because it is less affected by extreme outliers. As many of you have probably noticed, ADP's tend to be very different between sites because they are highly dependent on their own ranking systems.

Version 4.1 includes ADP's from Mock Draft Central, Couchmanagers, Fantasy Gameday, CBS, ESPN, Yahoo, and NFBC.

I'm sure it will go down and stabilize around 75-90 as suggested by Diamond Miner's ADP watch.

I've been wondering something about these mock results. It seems to me that there are always at least a couple people missing from these mocks. Often many more.So what happens is the sites "robot" or whatever continually drafts Pena or whoever every time when he's available when the robot thinks he should go. Then MDC will say after 1000 mocks, these are where guys will be commonly drafted. But what it really means is, this is where our settings reinforced our rankings. I think these mocks are a decent indicator when they've ran 1000 of them with a full room of actual people, but they really are decieving when they post the results often times with only a couple people actually doing the drafting. Went slightly off topic from the MDP report which will help balance these mocks only, I just wish they had a better way of running these w/o reinforcing their own rankings

Both MDC and Couchmanagers require a minimum of real people to be present during the draft. But some people draft like robots, which is why ADP is so dependent on site rankings.
