Off Season Trade Help

Postby Renshaw » Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:54 pm

Basically, just looking for some help on two deals. Both are open ended, with no offers set in stone, but both managers have asked me to throw some offers at them to get stuff going. I've thought some things through but haven't come to any final conclusions.

Deal #1: This one isn't as pertinent or important, really. I merely expressed interest in Garrett Atkins and he said he'd deal him for the right trade. I've already got a 1B and 3B so he'd be used as a backup/Utility if I did acquire him. I guess I'd be wondering what sort of deal should I propose for Atkins...OR, what is Atkins worth?

Deal #2 (Teams below): This is the bigger one. It centers around Jake Peavy and Albert Pujols. We've thrown some names around but we haven't exactly settled on anything, so I'm hoping for some outside input. Maybe to give me an idea of where to start from and where to go with the deal. I also have interest in his Tulo, so was thinking maybe a package of Pujols/Tulo/??? for Peavy/???/??? or something?

My apologies if this is a bit of a chore....thanks for the help in advance, I know it isn't exactly the best of questions to ask...

Deal 1 forget Atkins he is a waste of space at this point.

However I would throw out Magglios name and see what he says and go from there.

Deal one: I would rather have A-Ram manning my hot corner than Atkins.

Deal two: So you want both Pujols and Tulowitzki. Well, your trading partner probably wants a 1B and SS back in return so throw Ortiz and Theriot in the mix. That right there won't be near enough. For a 10-team league, Theriot is a weak shortstop. Throwing Peavy in does spice up the trade a bit more, but still think you're coming up a bit short on your end for what you're wanting. I think the best way for you to land either player will be a 2-for-1 deal.

The Atkins deal was just as a maybe. If I even dealt for Atkins I'd be keeping A-Ram.

And the other manager does have Stephen Drew at SS on his bench, so I doubt he'd want Theriot in return. SS was a revolving door for me all season, so I wouldn't mind trying to shore it up with Tulo. Magglio could work, though. Maybe something like Peavy/Ortiz/Magglio for Pujols/Tulo/Junk throw in (if he wants to do 3-3 swap?) Seems like I'm giving too many old guys though lol.

That wouldn't cut it if I was the Pujols owner. But you never know til you ask. Who does he value more, SDrew or Tulo? I have the projected a similar players, with Drew having the slight advantage.

I would offer the Peavy/Ortiz/Maggs and see what he says. You will probably have to bump Maggs up to Beltran, but I still think you will come out ahead. The biggest thing is Pujols is a top 3 pick, and for one of those guys, you can pretty much be assured you are going to have to overpay a bit.
