Shooting for Santana, Lincecum or Webb

Postby tyler2 » Thu Dec 11, 2008 8:33 pm

I'm angling to get Santana, Lincecum, or Webb for Kemp+Kazmir in my keep-6 league. Is Kemp+Kazmir enough? Note that we use pitcher losses (hurts Lince) and batter K's (hurts Kemp).

League Settings:

12 team mixed H2H, Keep 6 at the end of this year, can keep forever
Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, UTIL, SPx2, RPx2, Px3, BNx6
Hitting Categories: Standard 5 + OPS, K
Pitching Categories: W, L, SV, ERA, WHIP, K/BB [35 min. IP/wk]

My keeper-worthy players:

D. Wright
P. Fielder
C. Quentin (LF)
C. Sabathia
M. Kemp (CF, RF)
J. Papelbon
J. Upton (RF)
S. Kazmir
(also have Harden, V-Mart, and Mo, but doubt anyone wants to keep them)

Team A's keeper-worthy players:

J. Santana
Peavy
Manny (LF)
Abreu (RF)
Bruce (LF, CF, RF)
Sheets? Ankiel? J.D. Drew?

Team B's keeper-worthy players:

McCann
Tex
Magglio (RF)
Kinsler
Lincecum
Dice-K? Tulo? Burrell (LF)? Delgado?

Team C's keeper-worthy players:
Pujols (absolutely untouchable)
Markakis (RF)
Webb
Haren
Chipper?
Ludwick (LF, RF)? Michael Young?

I'm quite set on keeping Wright, Fielder, Papelbon, and Sabathia, and really, really like Upton, though as of now I wouldn't keep him. Let me know if you think Kemp+Kazmir would be enough for Lincecum, Santana, or Webb (I probably prefer them in that order). Would love to then flip that pitcher+Quentin and end up with Hanley, Wright, Fielder, Sabathia, Papelbon, and J. Upton, but that might be dreaming.

I don't think it's enough. Team A or Team C may bite because Kazmir is better than their last keeper, but I doubt it. Kemp's value is diminished due to K's and OPS and Kazmir took a step back last year. It couldn't hurt to offer though and see what they counter with.

Disappointing, but thanks for the reality check. I'm still thinking about trying to sell the Santana owner with the line of: "Would you rather have the last 5 years of Pedro or the last 5 years of Sizemore?", but we'll see...

Assuming that rhetoric doesn't work, would that package get me their second-tier pitchers (who are very good): Peavy and Haren?

I think you have the best chance with team B... He has Peavy for depth and Peavy/Kazmir is still a fine 1-2, plus Kemp is an upgrade over Abreu. It won't hurt to try. Ask the guy what he'd want for Johan - if he says he doesn't know steer him the 'would you want to upgrade Abreu' direction...

Thanks for help with mine.

beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. there are plenty of supporters of V Mart & J Upton that I'd think you'd have about as good a chance of moving as Kazmir. I just don't see that much love for Kazmir; he's a guy you like if you own him but no one wants to trade anything for him kinda player. 10 level headed guys can tell you 1 thing but its the individual owners opinion that only really matters. We've all offered guys the better end of a deal & still had them say no. And we've all had gifts offered from the sky we never could have seen coming. You've got the #'s here to pull this off & add a second ace. an owner who had past success with V Mart & didn't get burned this year or an Upton believer might take a lesser trading piece than Kaz but they don't not see it that way
