Gallardo and Bumgarner for Granderson? WHIP

Postby Dodgerbluesc » Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:59 pm

Hi all,

I have an offer on the table where I would send Gallardo and the #2 ML pick for Granderson and the #22 ML pick. I know that David Price is going #1 in the ML draft, and I plan to take Madison Bumgarner #2. So essentially I would be trading Gallardo and Bumgarner for Granderson and a lesser ML player. The pool of talent in our ML draft this year isn't that deep beyond the top 8 or so... I have tried like hell to move Cliff Lee instead and no one in my league wants anything to do with him...

Gallardo ($1.25) and Bumgarner for Granderson ($2.75) and ML pick #22.

Scoring and roster below. Thanks in advance. WHIP!!!

Matt

8x8 roto scoring:
AVG, H, RBI, R, HR, D+T, BB, SB
ERA, W, QS, BB/9, K/9, H/9, Slg%against, S.
We start all 25 players. 12 team keeper league, 12 keepers per team plus 13 player ML system.
C McCann, $2.75
1B Fielder, $1.75
1B Youkilis, $3.50
3B Ramirez, $8.55
OF Carlos Lee, $6.90
OF Manny, $11.95 (Salary doesn't count, he is my franchise guy)
OF Miledge, $1.00 (doesn't cost a spot, callup)
SP Lincecum, $1.75
SP Johan, $4.70
SP Liriano, $1.75
SP Gallardo, $1.25
SP Cliff Lee, $2.75
SP Nolasco, $2.75
SP Parra, $1.00 (callup, no roster spot)

ML ROSTER:
C J.R. Towles
OF - Matt LaPorta
OF - Travis Snider
OF - Colby Rasmus
OF - Felix Pie
3B - Josh Vitters
SP - Franklin Morales

Price is available but guys like Vitters are taken? Interesting...

What players are available besides Bumgarner and Price? Its difficult to answer this question without knowing who will be available at 22.

You are right to move some pitching, and Granderson is a good guy to have. Could you deal Liriano straight up for Granderson? I project Liriano and Gallardo to have similar seasons and would be very happy with either of them as my #3.

When our ML draft begins we can only draft guys who have pitched professionaly that year. So when a guy is drafted but he holds out or doesn't actually make an appearance in the minors that year, he isn't eligible for our draft. That's why Price is still available this year.

I have no idea who will be available at 22. Definitely won't be any "A" level prospects, that's for sure.

The other top ML guys available are: Neftali Feliz, Chris Tillman, Jarrod Parker, Pedro Alvarez, Tim Beckham, Derek Holland...

If I'm lucky maybe someone like Brett Wallace or Yonder Alonso or Logan Morrison will fall to me at 22... Like I said, no "A" level talent. My league does tend to value ML pitchers more than ML hitters though...

Thanks again for any help!

I agree that you need to move some pitching, but Gallardo and the #2 pick will be much more valuable in the long-run. I guess you need to decide if you're playing for this year or two years from now. I personally wouldn't do the trade.

I would have a hard time giving up Gallardo and Bumgarner for Granderson. I'd wait and try to shop for a deal after the season starts, if you can't find any takers now.

Alright he has come back at me with three different options...

1. Gallardo, FA 12 and ML 11 for Granderson and ML 21

2. Liriano, FA 4 and ML 11 for Granderson and ML 21

3. Lee, FA 4 and ML 2 for Granderson and ML 52

We have one FA round - 12 total picks - before our auction begins. A chance to claim players that were not kept at last years salary before they go to auction. I currently have two FA picks, the #12 and the #4.

I am sure I'll pass on option #2 - I won't pay more to include Liriano instead of Gallardo. What about options 1 and 3???

Thanks! WHIR.

This isn't as easy as it looks. But I would look at #3 as being your best option. With 147 players gone before your first FA pick you aren't gonna be getting a stud anyway.

So it would be Lee and Burrell-type player and Bumgarner for Granderson and Chris Coghlan-type player.

I would take the third option just because I'm not a big Lee fan.

I don't think I like any of the deals, but #1 is the most attractive. I haven't played in a league with your settings, but I think it's unlikely that there are twelve players signed to good/reasonable contracts that won't be kept and that fit your team need. Ergo, I don't think the #12 pick will be especially valuable. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

So, this essentially becomes Gallardo and a B+ prospect for Granderson. Seems pretty fair, but considering team need, I don't think I'd do the deal. Even without this deal, you'll be going into the draft with two of your 3 OF slots filled and 3 of the best ML OF's waiting in the wings. I'd rather hang onto the arms, or flip them for where you really need help - MI or RP.

I am not a big fan of any of those deals. I would stay put and wait for something better to come along

All great feedback ;-D But we have to start 5 OFers plus a UTL, so typically there are 70 or so OFers taken in my league - all have to start. Knowing how shallow OF is at that level, does that change your opinion, based on team need?

Thanks!
