i would go with mccann,longo,ramirez,sizemore,braun,beltran,santana,shields,volquez,k-rod. it gives you great balance, with 1 of two c's,1 outta three cor positions,1 outta there mid posisitons, 3 of five of's,3 of six sp's and 1 outta three rp. i love rios, but u can always find of's, ramirez's power at a weak posisiton is hard to resist and i dont think last year was a fluke. liriano could come thru huge, but i think shields is much more of a sure thing over him and felix. i would try and get them both back and your rotation is set. unless your league doesnt value closers that much then u can drop k-rod and keep liriano
Thanks for the great feedback and comments. Regarding "thats a great team", in 2007 my keepers were McCann, Braun, Rios, Sizemore, Beltran, Felix, K-Rod, Johan Santana, Liriano and Smoltz. After our 10 keepers(10 Rounds) I drafted Longoria in the 23rd Round(he wasn't supposed to get called up until early May-kind of a gamble), and I drafted Edinson Volquez in the 24th round(only because Johnny Cueto was drafted in the 23rd round). I like the above mentioned strategy to offer Alex Rios and K-Rod in a trade. I'm going to offer those two for Jose Reyes. If that doesn't work. As of today I'm leaning at keeping McCann(C), Longoria(3b), Braun, Sizemore, Beltran (OF,OF,OF) Santana, Liriano, Volquez, Felix, and K-Rod. I think I'll let go of Alex Rios, Shields, and Alexei Ramirez. Alexei and a few players such as Nelson Cruz, Jason Werth, Lastings MIlledge, Elijah Dukes, and Tori Hunter will be available in rounds 13-17. Once again, thanks for the input put into this thread.
If you have 10 teams or fewer, I would keep all 7 hitters, Santana, Felix and whoever you like out of Liriano, Shields and Volquez.
If you have more than 10 teams, I would wager that starting pitching gets pretty thin with all those SP slots. In that case, I would toss back Rios and keep four starters.
If you can trade in the offseason, try to move K-Rod. I would never keep a closer if you have other good options, but he should land a high draft pick or maybe could be paired with Rios for an upgrade.
We have 9 active managers in this League. With K-Rod inking a 3 year 37 million deal with the Mets, I'm still trying to offer him in an off season trade. I'd love to trade him "high" in the off season for someones 1st pick in our redraft (that begins in the 11th round).
