Big deals on HDTVs

Postby RugbyD » Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:36 am

I'm thinking this is a good time to investigate an HDTV purchase. I'm currently operating with a 27" tube and some of the prices I'm seeing on new stuff is pretty nuts just looking trough Circuit City and Best Buy websites.

Question: do you guys think I should dive in now or wait until January? Anybody else having similar purchase plans? Anybody know if there are a wave of new product releases or next-gen technology coming out soon that would be worth waiting past Jan for?

I think January will be the time to buy. Whatever doesn't sell during the Holidays must go before the new stuff comes out in February, as it generally does, and I imagine there will be more left over this year than in past years.

I'm planning on getting something with my tax returns. I want something around 48" 1080p LCD.

Just bought a 42 in. Panasonic 720p plasma TV for about $550 at PC Richards. The same TV is selling for about $700 now, which is still a pretty good deal. Not sure what things will be like in Jan.

This is the deal I wish I had gotten in on - since you are on LI, I imagine it was right under my nose and I didn't know about it!!

Let me know if you see it again, or something similar...

Will do. This deal was actually found in my old stomping grounds in Bayside, Queens though. Not sure if is was a regional deal.

Bayside is a mere 20 minutes away, so that wouldn't be an obstacle either if PC Richard's decides to re-run the deal...

how do you like it? i was thinking about getting the 720 and then i opted for the 1080. i cant complain about anything though, my picture is very very nice, and the sound is actually incredible. i was holding off on surround sound but now im thinking i may not even need it.

My preference was LCD>plasma and 1080>720, but I couldn't pass up that deal. I have another 42 in. 1080 in my house and honestly I can't tell the difference. I haven't even received my HDMI cables yet. I'm using RGB cables right now.
