Taking over new team, Keeper Help

Postby tanyon » Thu Dec 04, 2008 12:09 pm

6x6 Roto (OPS and Holds)

This is the league's 7th year, but my first. I can keep up to 8. If I keep less than 8, I get an equal amount of early round draft picks. So please tell me which guys I have to keep.

Here is the entire roster:

D Ortiz
E Longoria
C Ianetta
J Ellsbury
N Markakis
R Weeks
R Zimmerman
T Tulowitzki
H Kendrick
F Lopez
D Span
K Johnson
C Crisp
K Fukudome
C Guillén

R Oswalt
T Lincecum
M Pelfrey
B Lidge
J Papelbon
C Ho Park
G Balfour
G Gaudin
S Marcum
B Fuentes
G Floyd
F Carmona
E Jackson
A Reyes
C Buchholz

Part of me wants to keep only Longoria, Markakis, and Lincecum. Then I could have 5 ealier picks then everyong else.

Thoughts?

I like your idea, but I'd also add Ellsbury. He's young enough to where I'd want to hold onto him, especially with 8 keeps as an option. Keep those four and you have a solid foundation.

Unless the league has six teams or fewer, I'd also keep Papelbon, Lidge, Oswalt, Ellsbury and Ortiz.

agreed, any way to judge the players going back into the draft of which you can choose from?
Or maybe you keep in mind that you will be getting earlier picks and try trading someone like Lidge and Oswalt for a better option. Or Ellsbury and Ortiz.

Why on earth anybody would keep a closer, let alone in such a shallow league is beyond me.

who said it was a shallow league? But agreed, less then 10 teams I take my chances on the draft and do not keep Lidge...especially if I can redraft him. 12 teams, I'd have to think about it, that's basically the top 100 gone.

So much depends on what type of league this is but I would def think about keeping Ortiz and Paps. There are so few quality closers anymore that I would be willing to keep Paps but only if this is a 12 team league. Ortiz is still a top 1B and depending on who else is being kept, Ortiz will give you nice numbers.

I would keep your 3 plus,

Ortiz
Zimmerman

I wouldn't keep a closer myself.

is Ortiz 1st base elig in this league? any way of seeing how many managers only kept 3 last year? Do you draft early or late in the 4th round of the redraft if you keep 3? all these plus the size of the league are important factors in making the final decision.
