Verlander & Heyward for Markakis, WHIR

Postby labardo31 » Wed Dec 03, 2008 7:36 am

Hey all,

I've been offered the following trade:

I receive Justin Verlander and Jason Heyward (OF, Atl MiLB) for Nick Markakis.

The league is a deep keeper, each team keeping 8 MLB players and all MiLB (15 total MiLB) players annually.

Right now my keepers are
Jose Reyes, Chase Utley, Matt Holliday, Garrett Atkins, Corey Hart, Nick Markakis
Dan Haren, Felix Hernandez

My intentions are to keep 5 bats, 3 arms.

Is Verlander enough for Markakis? I've been trying to shop Atkins and Hart around for a decent pitcher, but haven't had any luck.

Thanks in advance, leave a link if you'd like an opinion on an issue of your own.

Don't do it. Markakis is getting better and contributes in 5 categories. Verlander is wildly inconsistant.
I think having 6 batters and 2 pitchers is ok.

Not a chance. I think Heyward can become a stud, but not at the price of Markakis.

If Heyward were a little closer I may consider it, but as it stands he looks to be a few years away from contributing. Verlander is too inconsistent and the Tigers are a trainwreck.

Thanks? Thoughts? viewtopic.php?f=26&t=364323

You are getting two ? marks for a sure thing. Stick with Markakis. I would see if you could still land one of the two for maybe Hart or Atkins but don't do that deal.

Absolutely not. Verlander is still surviving off of name value, I wouldn't touch him and Heyward is not making up that difference. Keep Markakis.

I agree with what was said above. Verlander looked lost last season, and while I view Heyward as one of the top prospects in the game, he is still likely a few years away. I would stay put with Markakis.

I wouldn't do this either. Hart is far more valuable than Verlander.

I personally like Verlander and expect him to rebound a bit this season, but I still wouldn't give up Markakis to get him.
