Jim Thome fractures finger

Postby WebHamster » Sat Mar 06, 2004 2:00 pm

Clearwater, FL (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Phillies slugger Jim Thome suffered a broken middle finger on his right hand during Friday's fielding drills.

Thome, who will miss the remainder of spring training, had x-rays taken which revealed the magnitude of the injury. The fracture was believed to be limited to the tip of the finger.

He suffered the break while taking ground balls as other teammates played the New York Yankees in an exhibition matchup at Legends Field in Tampa, Florida.

The 33-year-old first baseman was acquired last year during the offseason. Thome proved to be worth the money, hitting 47 home runs with 131 RBI and a .266 batting average.
