Overloaded on pitching! WHIR!

Postby chargerss24 » Mon Dec 01, 2008 4:39 pm

I'm stacked in my pitching rotation and I need to move a couple arms this off-season. I'm in a 12-team roto (standard + holds/OBP) auction keeper league. Before the season starts next year, we need to trim our rosters at or below the 19-man active roster limit. Basically we can not have any bench players prior to our auction/draft. Here's my bench:

SP - Dempster, Slowey, Pelfrey.
C - Clement.

My active roster is in my sig below. I would really love to keep Slowey, but I know I need a bat or two. What would you do to move some arms for some bats? I wouldn't be opposed to moving any one or more of my pitchers as long as the deal is right. (I do have a standing offer of M. Young for my Owie Howie and Dempster).
Thanks in advance and leave a link and I'll reply! ;-D

the biggest factor in determining keepers in an auction is their prices, which you don't have listed. I'd certainly want to keep Slowey if he's underpriced

Agreed. From that list and just from talent alone (w/o prices), Slowey is by far the best of the lot

I love Price, but with Hamels, Peavy and Santana as a fantastic rotation already... I'd see what kind of offers I could get for a solid CM to replace Laroche

Here are the initial prices to judge our keepers. These prices will flucuate until we set them in stone about a month from our auction (around march 1). It gives us an idea what we need to do to keep our budget under $26.

Sandoval - .10, Navarro - .10
Fielder - 3.90
Cano - 1.90
Rollins - 1.30
Longoria - 2.40
LaRoache - .90
Kendrick - .10
Markakis - 2.60, Rios - 1.80, Bruce - 1.20
Ellsbury - 1.30, Mora - .30, (empty slot)

J. Santana - 2.30, Hamels - 1.80, Peavy - 1.70, Greinke, 1.00, Price - .60
B. Ryan - 1.10, Arrendondo - .80, R. Madson - .10, Wood - .40

Bench - Dempster - 1.00, Slowey - .40, Pelfrey - .10, J. Clement - .10.

These are the initial prices. I need some bats in my lineup, so trading some arms for some bats would be ideal for me, I just like some ideas who to move and who to target. Hope this helps and thanks for your help so far! :-B

Who you move is all about who you can get in return. I'd actually shop one of the 5 you have as a starter and see if you can trade in on Santana for good value or hype on Price to keep slowey and maybe even one other to see if you can keep dempster. It seems like a 2 fer (one pitcher+ one hitter) for 2 hitters would be ideal.

Without making any moves, I'm keeping both Dempster/Slowey and tossin' Owie Howie and Madson back in the woodpile.

I have to move any combonation of three pitchers since we are not allowed to have any bench players prior to draft day. I would rather trade than out-right cut them. I do have the chance to move Owie Howie along with Dempster for Michael Young to man my MI position.

Ok, I'm a tad confused. You have 26 players listed as on your roster, but you have to be down to 19 players max or you have to cut three pitchers, which is it? I'd like to help.

Sorry if my post sounds confusing. In our league, we have an active roster of 22 players 13 postion and 9 pitchers (5 SP, 4 RP). We can keep anyone in our ACTIVE lineup as long as we're under our budget of $26. We must drop our any reserves we may have (in my case, 3 pitchers and 1 postion player) before our draft date in March next year. So it doesn't matter who I shuffle into my starting lineup for pitchers, I'm still going to have to move 3 pitchers.

I don't want to cut any of these 3 pitchers out-right, because I know I can get some sort of value in bats in return. My question is, what combonation of pitchers would you look to move to bring in a bat or two? Hamels, to me, would be the least likely for me to move, while I'm waiting to see where Peavy ends up. I'd certainly love to keep Slowey, but I just don't think I can with the big arms in my lineup.

Basically, just looking for some advice what pitchers I have you would move for what bats you'd target. Here are my bench pitchers (Dempster, Slowey, Pelfrey), while my active lineup is in my sig. Thanks for your help thus far! :-B
