Trading Ryan Howard???

Postby huztler » Sun Nov 30, 2008 10:13 pm

I have been offered Matt Kemp, James Loney and Neftali Feliz for Ryan Howard. This is a 20 team dynasty without contracts and I have no CF. I can keep working this deal but I want to know if it is stupid to trade Howard for several lower tier players. Thanks

It really depends on the rest of your roster. First, Does your team have enough power without Howard ? Also you have to consider who you would drop to get your roster down to size after you receive extra players. Then since the season is still a long way off, I would try and find a better deal.
I wouldn't be in any hurry. This deal doesn't sound too bad. Kemp and Loney are on the rise.

thanks...my team kind of sucks and i have several garbage players to drop if needed as well as a good farm system

1b -ryan howard
2b - freddy sanchez/ jeff baker
ss - jeff keppinger
3b - garrett atkins
c - ryan doumit/ jeff clement
rf - bobby abreu
cf - ryan sweeney
lf - jason bay
dh - jd drew

my sps kind of suck but i have a good bullpen and we count holds. i get good run production but i have some huge holes that i am trying to fill. i tried to get laporta in the deal but he doesnt want to do it. i could get gamel but i dont really want him, he also has some SP but i need a replacement at 1b.

In a dynasty format, I am going with the Kemp side here. Big power hitters like Howard eventually fade and a 24 year-old dynamo like Kemp is extremely valuable in a long-term league. Getting Loney makes it even better.

I love Kemp but you should be able to get more back in return for Howard.

Of course, Mr. I-have-a-Kemp-sig. :-D

In all seriousness, the deal isn't bad because it is a dynasty. Kemp is very good player in a dynasty, but I'm not crazy about Loney because I think he lacks power to be a good fantasy 1B. Feliz isn't bad either, he's probably in the top 25 prospects right now, it's just too bad he's in Texas now and no longer with the Braves.

It's not a bad trade, but I think you can get more for Howard.

I actually like the deal. Loney is serviceable in a 20-team dynasty league.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.

I like it - especially because your league is so large that depth becomes an issue.

I really believe Kemp will be a stud within two years, and Loney is an adequate 1B in this type of league

I'd also hold out for a better deal... def try for Kemp, but try to pry a solid young pitcher in the deal instead of Loney
