Just joined a new dynasty league where you pick 2 teams (in a snake style draft) and pick 8 players from each for a combined total of 16 franchise keepers.
Edit: There is a cap of $125 million. We assume the real life contracts as per Cots's Contracts unless they're free agents (then you sign for 3 years @ the previous salary) or rookies/arg. eligible/prospects (then you sign for 4 years @ previous salary). We can pick any 8 players from each franchise we draft (so if I pick Giants and Rays, I could keep guys like Lincecum and Crawford along with Bumgarner and Price).
My first pick is coming up and I'm really conflicted which team to select. Brewers, Red Sox, Mets, Phillies, Rays, Reds, and both LA teams have been picked. These are the ones I'm mulling over, with the players I would pick and how long I would have them for:
Marlins: Hanley Ramirez (14), Dan Uggla (12), Jeremy Hermida (12), Cameron Maybin (12), Ricky Nolasco (12), Josh Johnson (12), Chris Volstad (12), Anibal Sanchez (12)
Diamondbacks: Brandon Webb (10), Dan Haren (13), Max Scherzer (12), Adam Dunn (11), Conor Jackson (12), Stephen Drew (09), Justin Upton (10), Jarrod Parker (12)
Minnesota Twins: Justin Morneau (13), Joe Mauer (10), Delmon Young (12), Jason Kubel (12), Joe Nathan (12), Francisco Liriano (12), Scott Baker (12), Kevin Slowey (12)
I'm also considering just taking the Giants for their pitching (Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, Alderson, Bumgarner) and then just drafting whatever one-dimensional team w/ some good hitters is left (Rangers, Rockies, etc.).
Thanks

I'm not sure I understand how the league works. Is there a cap? Can you sign your franchise players to a cheaper salary or control them for longer? How do you guys deal with prospects, are they on your major league roster?
I need to think about this one. I think the D'backs have a good chance of being one of the teams you should select, although they are a little thin these days in terms of prospects.
Diamondbacks for sure because of the younger cheaper talent. So Dunn still count as a DB since he hasn't signed? Since that leaves you with 1B: Jackson SS: Drew OF: Dunn, Upton P: Webb, Haren, Scherzer and Parker
I know it would cost a bit more, but would the Tigers make sense? Cabrera should still be eligible at 3B. Polanco, Granderson, C.Guillen, Magglio, Verlander, Bonderman/Galarraga/Miner, and Porcello maybe?
Or what about the Rangers? Hamilton, Kinsler, C.Davis, M.Young, take your pick on one of their talented C prospects.
Though I have to admit, I like the Marlins and Twins better. I might not keep Delmon Young and favor someone like Span who will grab some SBs and has potential, or someone else. It seems either way with those two teams you pick up 4 more pitchers and get a little light on bats. But then again, that's some cheap talent that leaves you a good bit to spend in signings!
Does your league use MI or CI? What OF positions...3 OF or LF, CF, and RF. What about DH/Util? 1 or 2?
If these players don't stay with 'your' team do you lose them in future years? Many of these clubs you are discussing tend to lose players to the big market teams. I like AZ for sure, would worry about Fla and Minn if you lose players when they sign elsewhere. Another sleeper team with many talented youngsters coming might be the Reds?

I like the Rays. Crawford, Longoria, Upton on offense with Kazmir, Shields, Garza and Price pitching. And a couple of decent guys for #8. And they are cheap.
The Red Sox look good. Pedroia, Bay, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Papelbon and Lester all have cheap contracts and there are a bunch of other good players to pick from.
The twins and Marlins are also good choices since you get a good cheap starting rotation with them. The Dodgers also have alot of cheap talent. Ethier, Kemp, Loney, Bills, Kershaw and Broxton is a nice start.
