Pick 6 keepers?!?!

Postby kailromanoff » Tue Nov 25, 2008 2:01 pm

H2H 6x6(+.OPS & Holds) with 6 keepers

Obvious keepers:
M. Cabrera
Morneau
Rollins

Possible keepers:
Ortiz(I think Cabrera loses 3B elig in my league so may not have a Util slot for Papi)
Markakis
Roberts
Kemp
E. Santana
Sheets

I don't need to keep the full 6, I would get early draft picks if I kept less. That worked last year for teams that left their borderline keepers on the board. They were able to upgrade and 3 of the top 4 teams used that method...should I or do you think I have 6 obvious keepers. what do you think of E. Santana as a Keeper???

I keep Markakis and probably Kemp, and use your extra draft pick on the best available player. At the least, you'll probably get Felix, Santana, Ortiz, or Roberts back, and you'd have a good shot at getting someone better if a stacked team has to cast off good players.

Markakis and Kemp to give you 5, then take the early pick.

Any way to throw a trade together with 1 of your 1B? Seems like a waste to throw Ortiz back with nothing in return.

The more I think about it, this is a tough call - you've got some pretty good keepers. And let's not forget about Big Papi!

Generally, in a 10-team league, I like the idea of keeping fewer players and going after early draft picks unless you've got real solid keepers. If I understand your format correctly, let's say all other 9 teams keep the max of 6 players - that means only 54 players (plus whoever you keep) will be taken when you exercise your first draft pick, right? Sounds like others will drop at least some players so there may be less than 50 players taken when you use your first pick?

You will need to analyze the other teams in your league and assess who they are likely to keep.

So I think the question basically boils down to: Which of your guys would you rank in the Top 50 going into 2009? I think you can make a case for ALL of them, Ortiz, Kemp, Markakis, Roberts, Ortiz and Ervin!

but that's too many!! Is off-season trading allowed?

You might want at least one early pick to go after pitching.

Sorry I'm not more decisive but that's my .02 at this point.
