War Strategy?

Postby BronXBombers51 » Mon Nov 24, 2008 10:38 pm

I'm wondering if there is a good war strategy game out there for PC? I looked through some games but am not sure what's good, as I haven't ever really played PC games.

I'm not really looking for a FPS game, but more of a pure strategy game. I'm imagining Age of Empires but with modern countries/technology. Does something like that exist? It looks like the new Tom Clancy Endwar might be like that, but it's not released on PC until March. Any recommendations?

You are thinking of Company of Heroes. It is an older game but it is pretty awesome.

I thought I noticed a recurring theme in the quotes in your sig. :D

And yes Civ 4 is an unbelievable game. I can't say enough about it except GET IT. Quite possibly my favorite game of all-time. The only bad thing about it is that other strategy/war games just won't seem that good anymore after you've played Civ IV.

It's weird because I never got into Civ 4. I played Civ 2 FOREVER and could still play it today while enjoying it thoroughly. Tank rush FTW.

So you have noticed, eh? ;-)

Just a note on Civ 4. You need a relatively good computer to run it. I can barely play it on my laptop. I'd recommend downloading the Demo before buying the game or obtaining it through unconventional methods.

Also, make sure you have lots of time to spare. ;-)

you could try Axis and Allies. It's a board game (that is also available to play online for free) that is similar to Risk, but more in depth and challenging. It is a recreation of WWII. You can either be the axis (Germany and Japan) or the Allies (US, UK and Russia). It's a 2 - 5 player game (though online you can play other people or the computer). Check out the axis and allies thread if interested.
