Illinois-Based Fantasy League Looking to Expand

Postby Walden warriors » Sat Mar 06, 2004 10:33 am

We've created an application process, which I have pasted below. All are welcome to apply. Those accepted are invited to compete in a tryout league, of which the winner will receive the reins to an expansion franchise (along with another applicant chosen by committee).

The application is due by Noon on Satuday, March 13th. Feel free to email it to myself at By the way, it shoud only take about 20-25 minutes to complete.

Good luck!

Application for Expansion Team Ownership

I. General Information
Phone #
Secondary Address (original home, college, etc. –
Please specify)

Favorite Major League Baseball Team
Favorite Major League Baseball Player
Who referred you to the ICA?

II. Qualifications
A.) Please describe any experience you have with
fantasy baseball ownership.
B.) Please describe any experience you have with
organized baseball or softball ... Player, coach,
umpire, statistician, writer, anything?
C.) Being an ICA owner necessitates a degree of
creativity as we seek to continually advance the
league. Please describe your vision of the
ideal fantasy baseball league? How formal is it, how
organized? What are your demands of its commissioner
and fellow owners? Please be as detailed as
possible, including any ideas you would bring to the

III. Fantasy Scenario
Note: This section is optional, but its completion is
strongly recommended.

You are the owner of the Excaliburs, a team that
finished 7th out of 10 last year, missing the playoffs
by only 3 games. Here is your roster:

Luis Ayala, Jeff Bagwell, M. Batista*, A. Benitez, B.
Colon, J. Damon*, C. Delgado, C. Everett, C. Floyd –
DL, R. Furcal, J. Gerut, J. Kendall*, B. Lidge, M.
Lowell, R. Mondesi*, G. Mota, M. Mulder – DL, J.
Nelson, S. Podsednik, M. Redman, S. Stewart*, J.
Vidro, T. Wakefield*, D. Willis

*For this particular offseason, the Red Sox, Twins,
Phillies, Diamondbacks, and Pirates are MR, or
mandatory release. Players on these teams MUST
appear on your cut list.

Things to note:
-- Last year, you finished 4th in overall offense, and
6th in team pitching.
-- While regular season finish dictates draft order
for playoff teams, non-playoff teams are entered into
a lottery. The “ball” for your team was drawn 3rd.
-- Your team attempted to make a playoff run, thusly
not trading away key MR talent. However, you do own a
surplus of picks heading into draft day, having no 3rd
round pick, but having two picks in the 4th and 9th
rounds (Ten overall).
-- At the end of the 2004 season, Baltimore, Chicago
Cubs, Houston, Tampa Bay, and Toronto will be MR
teams, meaning players on those teams on the
last day of the season must be dropped by their
respective owners.
-- The categories used by the ICA for gaming purposes
are runs, runs batted in, total bases, stolen bases,
hitting strikeouts, hitting walks, errors, slugging
percentage, batting average, innings pitched, wins,
losses, saves, holds, pitching strikeouts, pitching
walks, ERA, and WHIP.

1. Submit your final 13-man roster, which you will
take into draft day. Please explain your reasoning
for each of your cuts. (Players on the DL do
count towards your final 13).

M. Batista - MR
J. Damon - MR
J. Kendall - MR
R. Mondesi - MR
S. Stewart - MR
T. Wakefield - MR
Five more…

2: If you could build your fantasy team around any
one player today, who would it be and why?

3. Assume you selected the player you answered for
Question 2 with the first overall pick in a draft
wherein all players are available. When you
were next up to make a draft pick at #20, the
following players had already been selected…

A. Rodriguez, A. Pujols, A. Soriano, T. Helton, V.
Guerrero, C. Beltran, M. Prior, G. Sheffield, C.
Delgado, B. Bonds, M. Ordonez, J. Giambi, M.
Ramirez, R. Halladay, P. Martinez, E. Gagne, S. Sosa,
P. Wilson, V. Wells

What player would you select with the 20th pick and

4. Are there any other factors we should consider
that would bolster your application?

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This serves as a disclosure that,
should you be accepted as an expansion owner of the
ICA, you will be charged a one-time expansion
fee of $40. While this may seem high, understand that
the ICA uses this fee as a vehicle to ensure that only
the most serious owners are considered.
This fee is in addition to standard annual dues that
are currently $40 but may increase in the future. In
addition, by applying you agree to make a committment
of at least 3 years of ICA ownership.

****If you do not agree to these conditions, please do
not apply.****

The tryout league will have an online draft. The biggie league has a live draft, however, out of town owners often participate via phone or internet.
