Keep Ellsbury, Crawford, or both?

Postby SAV » Sun Nov 23, 2008 8:27 am

I was reading comments about a slow mock in progress (http://www.fantasybaseballgenerals.com/ ... art-1.html) and a question popped into my head. I happen to own both Crawford & Ellsbury in a 5X5 H2H mixed keeper (std. categories, except OBP in place of AVG). We keep 10 players from year to year (no salaries and no contracts). Question is this: if I also own Sizemore & J.Bay, can I afford to keep both Crawford & Ellsbury or must I choose between them? Our in-season roster is 30 players and we play 5 OF.

My full roster is listed below. Thanks in advance

Roster:
C=Mauer
1B/3B=Youkilis, Berkman, M.Cabrera, M.Mora, Giambi
2B/SS=Utley, Al.Ramirez, Peralta
OF=Sizemore, Ellsbury, J.Bay, Burrell, Crawford, Dye, Church
Util=D.Ortiz
SP=J.Santana, Webb, Zambrano, Lowe, Guthrie, Hudson, Mussina
RP=Jenks, Marmol, Capps, Ziegler, F.Francisco, M.Gonzalez
Thank you!

C=Mauer
1B/3B=Youkilis, Berkman, M.Cabrera, M.Mora, Giambi
2B/SS=Utley, Al.Ramirez, Peralta
OF=Sizemore, Ellsbury, J.Bay, Burrell, Crawford, Dye, Church
Util=D.Ortiz
SP=J.Santana, Webb, Zambrano, Lowe, Guthrie, Hudson, Mussina
RP=Jenks, Marmol, Capps, Ziegler, F.Francisco, M.Gonzalez

The easy picks are imo:
Mauer
Berkman
MCab
Utley (even with his injury)
Sizemore
Bay
Johan
Webb

Leaving you with 2 out of:
Youkilis
Al Ramirez - also loses value because of OBP instead of AVG
Ortiz
Crawford - loses some value because of OBP instead of AVG
Ellsbury
Zambrano
Jenks

I would keep Ortiz and Youkilis out of that group, but Crawford, Ellsbury and Ramirez are close. I don't like either pitcher.

I might be in the minority, (I usually am) but I would take both of them and let Bay go. I just don't think he will have quite the same production with Boston as he did after the trade. Plus he is over 30 and in a keeper I would go with the younger player.

I would hold onto Crawford over Ellsbury.
Crawford is the better player, and he holding onto a few OFs does help in a 5 OF league.

I am going with Crawford and Bay. Bay has always drawn a lot of walks and is still valuable in an OBP league.
