This offer is hard to turn down....but....

Postby 18 and 1 » Sat Nov 22, 2008 12:43 pm

I really like Matt Wieters and hate to part with him.

Dynasty league - 12 teams, keep all, no salaries, 34 man rosters, start 13 pos, 9 pitchers (3 must be SP).

UPDATE: The new offer was Matt Cain and Broxton for Wieters. I declined. Am I nuts? I can't believe I holding to my guns like this, but I truly believe Wieters is going to be all that.

Previous Offer -

I've been offered Clayton Kershaw and Tim Beckham for Matt Wieters. I hate to part with Wieters, but this is a pretty good offer. The problem I have with it, is that I prefer Wieters over Kershaw, and it's going to be a pretty good wait for Beckham. Would you pull the trigger, or stand pat and keep Wieters?

Here is my roster -

Active Batters

Wieters, Matt C BAL
Fielder, Prince 1B MIL
Phillips, Brandon 2B CIN
Wright, David 3B NYM
Aviles, Mike SS KC
Renteria, Edgar SS DET

Guerrero, Vladimir RF ANA
Hart, Corey C. RF MIL
Holliday, Matt LF OAK
Sizemore, Grady CF CLE
Ortiz, David DH BOS
Votto, Joey 1B CIN

Active Pitchers MLB

Gallardo, Yovani SP MIL
Halladay, Roy SP TOR
Hamels, Cole SP PHI
Hernandez, Felix SP SEA
Lee, Cliff SP CLE
Maine, John SP NYM
Price, David SP TB
Santana, Johan SP NYM
Putz, J.J. RP SEA

Reserve Batters

Martinez, Victor C CLE
Viciedo, Dayan 3B CHW
Beckham, Gordon SS CHW
Pena, Carlos 1B TB
Cruz, Nelson RF TEX
Heyward, Jason OF ATL
Jennings, Desmond OF TB
McLouth, Nate CF PIT
Young, Delmon LF MIN
Headley, Chase LF SD

Reserve Pitchers

Walden, Jordan SP ANA
Aumont, Phillippe SP SEA

i wouldnt do that, you dont need kershaw that much considering hamels, felix, price, and gallardo all all under 25 i think, plus santana, lee and halladay...your staff is set for years, whereas this could be the last year vmart even keeps catcher eligibility, making wieters even more valuable...and i think wieters will do at least what soto did as a rookie, probably better...itd take more for me to trade him

I would pass on that deal. I love Weiters and think he'll outperform Kershaw easily for years. As was mentioned, your staff is pretty much set already for the future, making Kershaw a little less valuable.

Your minor league squad is pretty stacked as well, so Beckham isn't necessary again.

I'd stand pat as well. Some prospect sites actually rank Kershaw above Weiters and Beckham as a throw in is nice. However, I personally prefer Weiters over both of them combined.

Stick with Wieters. You don't have catching depth, but you do have pitching depth.

Thanks for the replies :-) I decided to turn down his offer. With V-Mart probably losing catcher eligibility after 2009, Wieters is worth a lot more to me than what he offered.

I would stick with Wieters as well. He looks like the real deal. You have a great pitching staff.
Stay put.

Hey keep Wieters.

Vmart is your catcher to start the year. That's great insurance. Your team is set minus a good SS. It would be risky but if you could land a drew or Missile for Vmart I'd chance it.

Agree you have plenty of young pitching already and Wieters could be huge as soon as next year
