1B Prospect Rankings

Postby StlSluggers » Fri Nov 14, 2008 1:28 pm

Anyone have a list of the best, up-and-coming 1B guys that are still in the minors?

I'm trying to look at guys that are looking to be up 2009 or 2010. Here's a list of names I've got so far... No particular order.

Matt LaPorta
Chris Carter
Yonder Alonso
Justin Smoak
Lars Anderson
Beau Mills
Brett Wallace
David Cooper
Logan Morrison

Any others?

How would you rank those guys on power potential? The league I'm in heavily favors OPS and discounts SBs.

Not really a power guy but Sean Doolittle deserves mention.
If you're looking for power, Brandon Snyder is another guy you might want to look at.

Kyle Blanks (Padres) fits your criteria I think.

Possibly Freddie Freeman (Braves)

Gaby Sanchez.

A little older, but he may be the starting 1B for the Marlins before too long.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.

Jesus Montero

He might have the best power potential in the minors. Probably debuts in 2011.

I though Montero was at C right now. Is he switching positions?

Although Montero is currently playing most of his time at catcher almost all scouts believe he will have to move off the position and will then go to 1B. He does have the bat to be a very good offensive player at 1B with good power.

Freddie Freeman and Eric Hosmer are 2 guys I'd add in to your list.

Those guys are both 19 years old. Do you see either of them making an impact in 2009 or 2010?
