Tough choice for keepers for next year....

Postby MrToilet » Fri Nov 14, 2008 3:15 am

So I won my 10-team league, 3rd year in a row....but now my keeper choices are a little harder...

Pick 4:
B. McCann
Pujols
BJ Upton
Rollins
Longoria
Holliday
Ludwick
Quentin
P. Fielder
Cliff Lee
Beckett
Liriano

My keepers from last year were Pujols, Rollins, Fielder, Holliday. I'm leaning toward those same 4 guys, but should I keep Upton this year for 2B eligibility? I have a feeling he's going to go off next year....but who to drop?

upton won't have 2B eligibility anymore, he didn't play any games there last season

as for your keepers, pujols and holliday are locks imo... i would choose the other two from rollins, fielder and longoria. probably rollins and longoria since you already have pujols at 1B. its pretty close though and i wouldnt really fault you whatever way u went.

Pujols is a lock.

The next 3 will come from Rollins, Holliday, Upton, Fielder, Longoria.

Rollins - SS depth is weak this year, 15/30 from such a shallow position is great
Holliday - trade is likely to dilute stats, will be a good hitter, but no longer top 10
Upton - his power fell, and no longer 2B, but has all the upside in the world
Longoria - A great rookie season that I expect him to build off
Fielder - power was down, but still going to be only 25 next year

Out of that group I would take Longoria, Fielder and Upton.

Pujols, Holliday Rollins, Longoria. I would replace Longoria or Rollins with Upton if he looks healthy.

Pujols
Rollins
Longoria
Holliday
I wouldn't pick Fielder, since you have a 1B with Pujols & in a 10 team league there should be plenty of mashers left to fill the loss of Fielder.

Pujols - Don't need a reason
Rollins - Still a top 3 SS and the dropoff is pretty steep after Rollins. He won't produce 1st round numbers, but still an elite SS.
Longoria - Sky is the limit here
Holliday - Won't produce 1st round numbers, but still one of the best OF.

I'd say Pujols, Holliday, and Longoria are locks. You can make a good case for either Upton, Rollins, or Fielder, but given how scarce SS will be, I'd keep Rollins.

I say go with the proven commodities

B. McCann
Pujols ;-D
BJ Upton
Rollins ;-D SS very shallow, so keep
Longoria - :-? I might keep him because his trade value is through the roof.
Holliday ;-D
Ludwick
Quentin - I avoid players who have had wrist injuries. Too much risk.
P. Fielder - :-? Option if you did not choose Longoria
Cliff Lee
Beckett
Liriano

Pujols
BJ Upton
Longoria
Holliday

Some tough cuts in there, but for me this gives you the best mix of stats, and also good upside/dependability.
