Ian Snell - 2009

Postby MaudDib » Thu Nov 13, 2008 6:58 pm

Before last year it was looking like Snell was becoming a nice middle of the rotation SP. Then 2008 came around and he looked lost. He went from a 3.76 ERA in 07 to a 5.42 ERA in 08. What do you guys think Snell is more likely to be the 07 version or the 08 version. And even more importantly would you hang on to him in a Dynasty league? I can either keep him or let him go which would give me the room for an extra pick in our minor league draft. More than likely I would take a player projected to be in the top 10 of the 09 draft. Thoughts...

...and as always WHIR

PS I have King Felix, Wainwright, Dice-K, Ervin Santana, Gallorado, Cain, Hughes and Andrew Miller as SP so me need for Snell isn't high but I also don't want to let go of a guy that could have good value come next season.

Will be in his prime 27, so I would expect a modest bounce back.

Last season his H/9 rose from 9 to 11 and his BB/9 rose from around 3 to 4.8.

I think Snell still has the ability to be a good major league pitcher, but I think I would probably take the draft pick.

If it's between Snell and a top 10 draft pick in the 09 draft, I'd take the pick. Even if Snell bounces back somewhat in 09, a top 10 pick is too valuable. If you are in contention next year, that pick can be traded for a player much better than Snell mid-season. If you are not in contention next year, you will be glad you took the pick because I doubt you will be able to get something of similar value for Snell.

I'd probably take the pick as well.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.

Given your staff, I don't think you need Snell. Especially if it is a standard league.
