Keeper Trade: Atkins & Morneau for Holliday?

Postby OneLoveBoomer » Wed Nov 12, 2008 4:18 am

So, in my keeper we can keep up to 7, at least 4.

I was planning on keeping:
1. J. Reyes
2. M. Ramirez
3. J. Morneau
4. E. Longoria
5. G. Atkins

But I have been offered HIS M. Holliday (post A's trade) for MY Atkins and Morneau, meaning I'd keep 4 and could go into the draft a round early. What say you?

I'd say Atkins is droppable & Holliday still rates above Morneau, go for it

Even without Longoria I wouldn't keep Atkins. I think Holliday will put up similar numbers to Morneau with some more SB, so its worth it. I'd do it.

I think Holliday's going to be hurt by Oakland more than most people do, but still, Morneau + Atkins < Holliday + the extra pick (something like Haren)

I think this is a good buy low on Holliday in a keeper. He'll only be in Oakland for a season at most and although he isn't returning Coor's field he might return to a decent hitting environment. And I think he'll be affected in Oakland less than people are panicking.

You should absolutely pull the trigger. Atkins will most likely be traded, and his number will drop precipitously. I agree with the poster who stated that Atkins is droppable; I still cannot believe that I passed over Lincecum in the 7th to get Atkins (yes, I am a tad jaded). That leaves you with Morneau and Holliday, which right now could be a wash. I have read rumors about the A's expanding payroll, which could bring Holliday some protection. That said, he is only going to be 3-6 month rental until he gets traded to a contender, at which point his value eclipses Morneau's. So pull the trigger, be patient, and then reap the reward.
