Is there any hope for Alex Gordon? I think this will be year three in the majors and I was disappointed because I didn't see the increase in numbers last year that I had hoped for. I had prett high expectations for this guy and his minor league numbers were extraordinary. Is there any chance that he gets thing figured out? I have him in a Dynasty league and I have an offer for a third round pick in our minor league draft. Our league has a ten player minor leagues system so there isn't any real big names coming with the pick. I generally go for a college player that hasn't been draft yet. So would you trade Gordon for a minor leaguer or give him another season to show something. By the way I have Longoria and Zimmerman at 3B aleady so I have some depth to trade.
and as always WHIR...

There is nothing to be gained there trading him for a mid-level prospect imo.
Like most prospects, there is never any guarantee and for every Braun and Longoria that comes up there are 100's of losers or mediore prospects that do not live up to anything near the hype they get.

On the other hand, Pence declined in OPS from .899 to .784, avg from .322 to .269 and OBP from .360 to .318. Also, his K's and BB's stayed unexciting. Gordon, meanwhile, had his avg go from .247 to .260, his OBP rise from .313 to .350 and his OPS jump from .724 to .782. He also increased his walk rate from 6.8% to 11.6%. With his age and behind-the-scenes stat increases, I could see a nice power spike.
So, to me, their stats are similar but Pence needs to rebound, while Gordon is trending up. Add in that Gordon plays 3B, is a year younger, has better pedigree, and that I'd rather draft a young guy trending up over a guy I'm hoping to rebound............and I still like Gordon better!
The above reflects my hopes for Gordon from another thread where I compared him to Pence.

Not the time to give up on Alex Gordon. Right now is probably the worst time to be trying to trade him away. His value has never been this low. I'd recommend patience, especially since you have guys who can play for you at 3B. Keep him on the bench until he starts hitting. If he never figures it out, I'm sure you missing on a 3rd round pick in the minor league draft won't make much difference on your team.
Maybe with your 3B depth you could swing him for another "disappointing" former top prospect, like Delmon? But I wouldn't trade him for some random mid round pick.
Watch him live. He is a very gifted baseball player. He made strides this year even though he is depended on far move heavily to restore a lost fan base than any player should be. This is a local boy who is expected to dig a terrible franchise out of a 20+ yr funk. Longoria and Braun had multiple rising young stars around them to pull the load when they arrived. Coming out of college or even as the three left the minors, every GM in baseball would have taken Gordon over Braun or Longoria. Maybe he doesn't ever make it because of whatever voodoo the baseball gods tend to shake on players, but you have a player that if in the minors would still be a top 3 overall prospect. He's 24. Roll the dice. Low risk High Reward. Good Business.
Thanks guys. This is my feeling as well. On top of that I am a Royals fan (I am sure there a couple others out there) so it would be nice to see him succeed. The media here has been down on Gordon all season long and basically saying that he isn't going to live up to the high expecations on him. I was surprised to see them down on a guy that is still young. I seem to remember the old saying that it takes a player 3 years to find their way in pro sports. Lets hope this is his year.

I panned him a bit in the Pence thread, but I think the analysis in this one is right on. You don't want to give up Gordon for the 101st best minor league player. Heck, at 24 he'd only be a year or two older than some of the college players in that draft, and he's got 2 years of MLB experience under his belt.
