Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan says the Cubs have moved ahead of the Braves in the Jake Peavy trade talks.
The Padres are reportedly asking for Jeff Samardzija, Felix Pie, Sean Marshall and Ronny Cedeno for Peavy. Getting Samardzija might be more trouble than it's worth considering there are still questions about how he'll fit for the long term. If the Padres want him, then it might result in either Pie or Marshall being taken out of the deal. Without Samadrzija involved, perhaps they could get Pie, Marshall, Cedeno and a couple of younger guys, with Donald Veal, Tyler Colvin and Jose Ceda among the possibilities. The names of Rich Hill, Mike Fontenot and Kevin Hart could also come up. Petco would seem to be the perfect place to try to get Hill turned around.
I will have to go back and look it up, but I seem to remember Samardzija having a no trade clause when he signed with the Cubs instead of playing football.

Petco is the perfect place for any pitcher to revive a career.
Rich Harden's name has also been thrown around in this deal.

as long as in petco, the plate is 17 inches wide and 60'6" from the rubber then hill has no value in that deal

That's what I was thinking. A bunch of average at best (not playable at worst) players for one of the top pitchers in the game on a reasonable contract.
The Braves have been offering Yunel Escobar, Charlie Morton, and a minor leaguer (possibly Jordan Schafer). But the Padres REALLY want Tommy Hanson, and perhaps that was the deal breaker, because the Braves have no interest in giving up Hanson.
