Rasmus Dynasty Trade?

Postby Chief Noc-A-Homa » Wed Nov 05, 2008 5:15 pm

Just joined a 30 team Dynasty league. I need SP something awful on this team. Only have Wolf, Tomko and Elbert under contract for next season. It is possible I could retain Lowe and Penny though.

I have been offered the following:

I get:
Jonathan Sanchez @ 7.2 mill thru 2010
Jonanthan Niese @ 551k thru 2012

I give up:
Colby Rasmus @ 400k thru 2010

To do or not to do?

I am personally not high on Niese or Sanchez ever being better than middle of the road starters. So, you should be able to get their equivalents anywhere. Rasmus, at least, has a shot to reach his immense upside. I'd stand pat.

Rasmus, especially at that price, is one of the most valuable pieces you can have in a dynasty type setting. There's no way I would make that trade, no matter how desperate for pitching I was.

I would stay put. In a league so large, you should target guys who haven't made much of a name for themselves yet. James McDonald, Rahadmes Liz...Those types of guys that can be had fairly cheaply, but have nice upside.

Nope. Don't make this trade. And this is from a guy who was hyping Sanchez all year. Sanchez has good stuff, but I'm not sure he'll ever be a top of the rotation kind of pitcher. He's too inconsistent and although he would probably get better with a few years under his belt, he's also a hothead, which doesn't help him at all. The stuff is there though.

Rasmus upside is too big for you to trade him for an end of the rotation big league pitcher and a prospect who I'm not too excited about.

Doesn't sound like your team will be contending with those pitchers, and Sanchez and Niese won't be helping that much. Hold on to Rasmus.
