Landing Johan Santana WHIR!!!

Postby chargerss24 » Mon Nov 03, 2008 1:29 pm

I've been offered Santana for my Armondo Galarraga, Ryan Dempster, Jermaine Dye and C.C. Sabathia.

The league I'm in is a 12-team roto (standard stats + OBP/Holds) auction value keeper league. We can keep any number from our 23-man roster as long as it is under our $26 cap limit. I'm roughly $2.20 over my cap, but those numbers will flex over the offseason and won't be set in stone until roughly 1 month before the season begins. Here's my current team:

C - P. Sandoval, D. Navarro
1B - P. Fielder
2B - R. Cano, H. Kendrick (MI)
SS - J. Rollins
3B - E. Longoria, Adam LaRoche (CI)
OF - J. Bruce, A. Rios, N. Markakis
U - J. Ellsbury, J. Dye, M. Mora
SP - C. Hamels, J. Peavy, C. Sabathia, Z. Greinke, D. Price
RP - B. Ryan, K. Wood, J. Arrendondo, R. Madson

Bench (Can't have bench players prior to the auction/draft date)
SP - M. Pelfry, K. Slowey, A. Galarraga, R. Dempster
C - J. Clement

I'm a little leary about Sabathia's workload the past couple seasons, so he would be No. 1 guy I'd look to move. Yeah, I am giving up a good number of players, but I'm going to be doing some cutting to get my roster limit in order before the season begins, so why not throw together a 4-1 or 3-1 trade and get something in return? What do you think of this trade? Would you restructure this trade in another way? Any advise would be great. Leave a link and I'll help out! :-D

Without knowing any prices of the players, I prefer Santana over Sabathia. With you being over the cap and with a few extra players, this seems to be a good deal for you. A rotation of Santana, Peavy, Hamels, and Price should definitely be enough. ;-D

Thanks for your input! I'm at my gf's house and don't have access to my prices right now, but I will edit my post and put the initial prices in. I do know that Sabathia is 2.20 and Dye is 2.00. Unloading them in the deal would more than likely allow me to have Santana, Peavy and Hamels for a starting 1, 2, 3 punch.

Pretty loaded right now, under the circumstances that you are over the cap, i guess i would do it. Having probably 3 of the top 5 pitchers should have you tops in many cats.

in an auction its all about keeping value, not names or #'s. If Santana is overpriced, then it really doesn't matter; you keep the guys undervalued & discard the rest. If CC & AG are cheap, then you don't even want an overpriced Santana. I'd certainly look to keep Slowey if he was inexpensive too
