Postby coop777 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 7:56 pm

Its a 16 team 6x6...10 keeper league.........i have room for a 2 for 1......my main question is james shields real? a top 25 pitcher? I give up age with miggy for howard but with cabrera weight issues im ok with that...what do u think? thanks in advance

Shields seems to be kind of in the Tim Hudson mold. Good ERA and k/bb but not too many k's. So yeah, that means he'd be somewhere between 18 and 28 among pitchers. I think it's kind of what you see is what you get though. What we've seen the last two years seems to be his upside.

I like the trade (as Big Ken said it does kind of depend on who you bump by doing a twofer) even though I'm not too high on Howard.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.

definate keepers are martin/berkman/utley/m young/derek lee/cabrera/lackey/lee......and i have a number of guys who i am not high on keeping such as sheets/broxton/lowe/burrell/ca gomez/tor hunter...even with this 2 for 1 trade i still have room for another bat..im leaning towards doing it because howard will pick up homers/ribbies.....and lose BA....to me the difference b/w him and miggy is less than a player such as shields..plus...getting 45 homers and 140 ribbies is nothing to sneeze at

I would keep Miggy and not do the trade. Howard's BA is killer. Shields is solid, but I would think you could draft a Shields type. Your other keeper options are kind of week so I can see why a 2 for 1 makes sense for you, but I would not do the deal.

I keep MCab. General rule of thumb is 2 for 1s usually favor the guy getting the 1. In this case, Sheilds is just not such a worthy keeper to downgrade to Howard for imo. With 16 teams and 10 keepers (160 deep), players like Hunter, Sheets and Lowe are decent enough keepers and it simply is not worth taking a hit to upgrade to a Shields imo. Too many Nolascos and Cliff Lees show up year to year on the pitching side (and too many Harangs and Bedards) to be downgrading your top sticks also imo.

I'd only do this if I have a majority of +.300 hitters on my roster or else Howard's BA will drag you :-t

I'm holding onto Cabrera. He's arguably the most valuable keeper in baseball, regardless of position.

I would hold onto Mcab. Shields is a fine pitcher, but you have plenty of options for your last keeper spot, so the need for a 2 for 1 is not that huge.
