Trade David Price?

Postby kcbrett5 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 12:35 pm

In a 5X5 12 team AL only league I have Price as a $10 minor leaguer for the next 3 yrs.
I am set to compete this year. DO i trade him for a more guaranteed numbers guy? Lester ($10) 1yr or Grienke ($11) 1yr?
AND, what do you think his (Price) role will be in 2009?

I would guess he gets treated with kid gloves. He either starts in AAA with an innings cap or hs begins as a reliever for Tampa in order to keep his innings low. Either way, he becomes a starter in the 2nd half and has good results. I estimate him starting full time in the majors in 2010.

I would not trade him for 1 year of Lester or Grienke. His half year of starts in 2009 should close the gap a little too.

Lester will be better next year but I don't think it's worth giving up 3 years of Price for and check the avatar

I would stick with Price. The guys who are considering trading him for have experience, but don't instill enough confidence to give up 3 years of a top prospect like Price.

Not for those offers. Price at $10 in AL-only is still quite a bit imo. A lot of money to shell out for a guy that has yet to prove a thing in the Majors. Still, one year of Greinke at the same price level is not going to make me trade Price. I think you need to get either a proven talent at the same price\contract point or get a couple of good propects at a cheaper price\contract point. Otherwise, just stick with Price and hope he earns his money.

Price will have a big role in the Rays season next year as a starter. There is no way you should trade 3 years of Price away for one year of Lester even though Lester should be a bit better next year. Price will have some up and downs next year but I imagine he still earns $10 for you in your league. Hang onto the young stud.
