Dynasty Draft HELP

Postby atinucci20 » Wed Oct 22, 2008 7:26 pm

I am taking over a team this year that finished awfully last year. I have the 2nd pick overall and I know from speaking to the person who has the number 1 pick that Pedro Alvarez is going first. Who should I go with? Ive been looking at Hosmer and Smoak but I am unsure of which way to go. Any suggestions? Help please.

Are 2008 draftees the only available players?

Between Smoak and Hosmer, I'd take Smoak.

Smoak is your best bet of the two. If your team is that bad then you are going to want players that can help you within a year or so. Hosmer has a lot of upside but he is probably 3 years away. The only other guy I might think about is Matusz depending on your rotation but I will almost always take a hitter ahead of a SP especially when they are still in the minors.

all players drafted in 2008 as well as international free agents. My pitching is awful at the moment but I have Adenhart and Porcello in the minors so help is on the way. Anyone I should consider besides Hosmer and Smoak?

Alonso. His bat is the real deal. He doesn't have the power upside of Hosmer or Smoak, but he could hit 30+ a year playing half his games in Cincy. He has the quickest ETA out of the three.

Well, here are the guys I would list as being the best hitters from the 2008 draft:

Alvarez, Pedro
Smoak, Justin
Beckham, Tim - He doesn't get much love, as much as he should. Guys have become enamored with the 1b in this draft, and will regret the 5 tolls Beckham should develop at a premium position.
Hosmer, Eric
Alonso, Yonder
Beckham, Gordon

I wouldn't necessarily rank them in that order, but given my preference, the list would go like thi:
Alvarez, Beckham, Alonso, Smoak, Hosmer, G. Beckham

Hope this helps.

Zinnanooches, You may not want help from the Commish of the league but here it goes anyways.

Matusz
Smoak
Y.Alonso

Those would be the guys I'd consider going with with the 2nd overall pick.

Meh I'd go Beckham #2, not many players have his talent at that position. Smoak #3. Btw don't listen to the commish, he's evil :-D

If you weren't needing the help now, then Beckham is the best choice here. But I don't think you want to wait 3 years before you have a good team. That is why you should go with Smoak. He is has a high upside in the power dept., one of the better batters eye and will be playing in Texas which should only help his numbers. I also don't see anyone who is in his way. Davis is good but I don't think he has the ability to block Smoak from being in the majors in 1-2 years.
