Fantistics Baseball Insider wrote:P Brian Lawrence SD- Caution for those expecting Brian Lawrence to bounce back from his 2003 season. We were told by an advance player scout (at the Angels camp on Wednesday) that Brian Lawrence, for whatever reason, is throwing at significantly less velocity this spring. Although Lawrence doesn't rely on his fastball as his out pitch, he's going to have to "show something" to hitters to offset his sinker and breaking ball. Already sporting a dangerous sub .60 K/Inning ratio, with this new information, he is too risky at the levels we expected him to perform in 2004 (sub 1.25 WHIP). When you consider that Lawrence had a 7% decrease in production during the second half of last year, there is some concern for a 3rd year player who has averaged 210 innings over his last 2 seasons.
